Celebrity parents are often a strange breed. Some opt to keep their children out of the limelight at all costs, whereas others rush their child in full charge ahead from the moment they first take a positive pregnancy test.

With the introduction of social media we’re all a little guilty of putting our child “out there” much more often than previous generations.

Here’s the thing, we regular folks love to read and watch programming about the strange, bizarre, and kooky things the rich and famous do. My grandmother always said this was because it made us feel better about ourselves and our parenting choices.

When a regular person has a sketchy parenting style, odds are that other people try to step in, or offer help to an overwhelmed parent (or we hope they do).

While most of the shenanigans these famous moms and dads get up to could easily get filed under eccentric, there are a few parents who are really endangering their children. Still we celebrate them anyway, and move on as if their unusual parenting methods are yesterday’s news, because it really has become yesterday’s news.

Here are 13 sketchy things about celebrity parents that we’d never let our friends or family away with!

13 Creepy Family Photoshoots

While most of us think more about “Wrecking Ball” Miley Cyrus than little kid Hannah Montana, there were some familial warning signs of bizarre behavior long before she was an adult.

Posing for a magazine is one thing, but a suggestive glamor shot is something else altogether. When her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, was present during his daughter’s famous Vanity Fair photo shoot; his then teen daughter took off her top and was draped in a sheet, Dad was quoted, “I think it's really artsy. It wasn't in a skanky way… And you can't say no to Annie Leibovitz. She's so cute. She gets this puppy dog look and you're like, 'OK'."

Another feature in that issue of Vanity Fair was an uncomfortable pic of Miley draped all over her dad.

12 Fame Hungry

The Lohan family has some messed up ways of showing their love and affection for their kids.

Michael Lohan has held press conferences to inform the media about anything from his daughter Lindsay abusing prescription pills, to when she has been deeply troubled with drug addiction, instead of providing the love and support that a child might come to need from their parent.

He also has been arrested in the past for domestic battery, so clearly a stand-up guy. In order to “help” Lindsay he decided it would be a good idea to distribute recordings of private conversations between him and his daughter, classy!

A lot of celebrity parents will ride on the coattails of their kin, but Michael latches onto his daughter’s fame like a parasite when he should really be providing her with help surrounding her addiction and mental health issues.

11 Talk Inappropriately About Their Daughters

Being proud of your children comes naturally to most of us. We’re their coaches and their biggest fans. Joe Simpson has every right to be proud of his daughter Jessica Simpson.

At this point she has a longstanding career and is raising beautiful children of her own. In an interview in 2004, Joe got people talking by commenting on his daughter's “assets” (and we’re not talking about her singing voice).

Simpson said, “She’s got double D’s! You can’t cover those suckers up!” Naturally, Pastor Simpson (yes that’s right) is a religious man who has no problem talking about his daughter’s rack.

But don’t worry, it didn’t make his daughter uncomfortable, Jessica responded by saying, “My family is extremely close. I talk to my mom about my sex life. That’s not something that creeps me out.”

We’re all for the being body positive Mr. Simpson, but perhaps keep your comments about your daughter’s ta tas out of the news?

10 Have An Arrogant Parenting Style

Love her or love to hate her, Gwyneth Paltrow is that judgmental mom that makes most parents feel about three inches tall with her arrogant parenting style.

Her children are only allowed to watch television in French or Spanish, cause then it’s an educational experience. She’s also been quoted as hating on regular working moms outright saying that balancing a regular job and a family isn’t nearly as hard as being on set.

Then there are her views on food. While most of us can’t afford an army of staff to make sure we have the time to cook healthy options for the entire family, Gwyneth really emphasizes the importance of nutrition and has gone on record saying that she’d “rather die than let her kid eat Cup-A-Soup”.

Solid burn Gwyneth. Just the same she’s been able to make a mint off of her site Goop and all of the extravagant luxury products they sell there. The rest of us can sit here with our instant soup and glare at the “conscious” uncoupled momma.

9 Let Their Child Wear Full-Face Make-Up

A little dress-up never hurt anyone on Halloween or a special occasion, but what about when a small child determines a need to wear a full face of make-up most of the time. Are we robbing them of their childhood, or simply allowing them to act just like mommy dearest.

Model turned TV host Katie Price had others aghast when she posted photos online of her then eight-year-old daughter Princess Andre, fully made-up with false eyelashes. Princess Andre’s dad, who has been divorced from mom since 2009 felt that the photos were both “difficult to deal with” and commented they were “disgusting”.

Online lurkers were left to wonder what was going on and also spoke up. Price said she saw the error of her ways and has refrained from posting such provocative and upsetting photos of kids.

8 Breastfeed Forever

Sometimes famous parents use their celebrity as a platform to promote unusual parenting practices, but Alanis Morrisette is simply doing here parenting thang here.

“You Ought a Know” that she’s more than okay with breastfeeding for a very, very long time. It’s been reported that the singer and Dogma star breastfed her son until at least his fourth birthday.

The American Academy of Pediatrics has recommended mothers continue breastfeeding for at least 12 months (when they can) and The World Health Organization has endorsed breastfeeding for up to age two and beyond.

So star pupil Alanis decided that she was going to be a super mom and double that recommendation. Breastfeeding is a wonderful way to bond with your child, but when they enter kindergarten still relying on their mom for more than regular “milk money” we’re guessing it could potentially cause some awkward situations.

7 Throw Tantrums

We all talk to children in ways we regret from time to time. We lose our patience, we don’t practice what we preach, and we yell.

Alec Baldwin found himself in a sticky parenting and celebrity situation when a voice recording of him screaming at his 11 year old daughter, Ireland, was sold to TMZ without the star’s permission.

In the recording Baldwin, a father who was clearly on edge over seven years of divorce proceedings following the end of his relationship with actor Kim Basinger, decided to take it out on his daughter.

An irate Baldwin called his daughter a “rude, thoughtless little pig” for ignoring his calls. Today all seems to be forgotten as far as the tabloids go since now we’re bombarded with new photos of doting dad Baldwin and his “new family” as if nothing had ever happened.

6 Make Child Seats Optional

Most new parents obsess over making sure they put their infant into a safe and secure car seat. In Ontario, Canada, they won’t even let you leave the hospital with your infant until you prove that you have a safe car seat for your child.

In Hollywood it turns out that parents are a little more lax about how their wee ones travel to and from high profile events. After all, when the paparazzi are chasing you, who has time to secure your infant safely to their seat?

Britney Spears certainly didn’t in 2006 when she was photographed by the very media she was fleeing from, driving away with her four month old son, Sean Preston, on her lap while she drove, instead of in his baby seat. Spears was not charged for her lapse in judgement since the deputy involved in laying charges didn’t witness this in person.

5 Manage First, Parent Second

Of all the parents on this list one of the biggest train wrecks that we just can’t turn away from is Kris Jenner and her fame before family attitude.

When she was working as an assistant to Nicole Richie and the Paris Hilton sex tape got out, Kris felt some “momager” inspiration for her own kids and brokered a deal for the release of her daughter Kim’s sex tape.

In addition to her flaunting her children’s escapades Kris will do whatever it takes to keep the family name known. There are specific branding guidelines to be "in the family", including what you wear and don’t wear at public appearances, think that scene from Mean Girls when they only wear pink on a specific day of the week, but multiply that type of “contract” by a million.

4 Deny Vaccines

Jenny McCarthy believes in autism, and she also believes in using her celebrity status to scare other parents out of having vaccines for fear of developing autism.

Guess what, your kid can’t develop autism if they die of polio? Just saying.

When her son was diagnosed with autism she decided to play the blame game pointing her finger at vaccines. Proving that celebrity can be taken at value over science and medical professionals, she spread fear across whatever channel would listen.

She then later claimed her son was “cured” because of alternative medicine. A lot of people think that McCarthy’s son was misdiagnosed with autism, and that he wasn’t “cured”, but simply hit a developmental milestone that had him testing outside of the autism spectrum.

Still McCarthy boasts her “healing methods” to anyone who will listen.

3 Treat Their Kids Like Accessories

Anyone who hasn’t been living under a rock for the past decade probably knows more than they ever wanted to know about the Kardashian family.

It’s not surprising that camera takes priority over pretty much anything else, sometimes even minding your own daughter. When 3-year-old North West had a tumble behind her mom, she didn’t even notice or pause since she was so focused on getting the perfect angle for her shot.

Lucky for North, Kourtney was able to pick her up off of the floor while mommy dearest continued to "Vogue".

Kim has also been parent shamed when she allowed North to sleep in a real pearl necklace, which is literally laced with choking hazards. One parenting expert went on record saying, “Kim is being so irresponsible as a parent and treating her child like an accessory baby.”

Speaking of accessories, Kim has been known to cry over spilt milk when her daughter made a mess in her Birkin bag.

2 Become Helicopter Parents

We’ve all heard about helicopter parents.

We’ve read articles about ones who think it’s a good idea to challenge college professors over grades, or even getting way too involved in their child’s professional life when they’re working.

This is the case for 1990’s celeb Thora Birch. Most remember her for her roles in films like American Beauty, Ghost World, Hocus Pocus, and Now and Then. Her co-workers likely remember her from her overly involved dad who liked to go on set with his daughter.

Her father, Jack Birch, felt a need to be really involved in his then grown-up daughter’s career. When she was 26 years-old and filming a steamy scene opposite actor Dean Winters, daddy dearest needed to be there, and was reported to have given the actor an awkward thumbs up during the love scene.

He’s also said to have threatened another actor who was rubbing Thora’s back when she was performing Dracula off Broadway.

1 Hosts House Parties

In many families and cultures a glass of wine with dinner or a sip or two at a special occasion is a normal treat for children, but it’s probably not the best idea to boast about it on social media.

On New Year’s Eve 2014, Madonna hosted a house party where her son, Rocco Ritchie, had invited some of his friends over to join the festivities. Madonna shared a photo with the world on Instagram right before midnight captioning, “The party has just begun! Bring it! 2014!”

People were quick to blast the pop star for endorsing underage drinking. Madge quickly fought back telling people to get a sense of humor and “chill out”. Rocco was also caught drinking beer and smoking under a bridge on another occasion, and some might speculate this is because of her lax attitude for drinking. I’d argue that the biggest parenting crime here is posting on social.
