Beyonce and Jay-Z recently made headlines when the parents announced on social media that they are expecting twins. Shortly after music’s power couple revealed their big news, George and Amal Clooney shared that they, too, are expecting twins. These four kids are still in the womb, and they’re already destined to be superstars!
The birth rate for twins in the United States is about as many as 1 in 30, which is almost a 40 percent increase since the 1980s. Researchers believe this is due to the growing numbers of older women getting pregnant and more success with fertility treatments. Hormonal changes that occur later in life and the use of fertility drugs increase the occurrence of twins because they often cause the release of more than one egg at the time of ovulation. Also, the likelihood of conceiving twins is also greater if there is a history of twins in your family. Some studies have also shown that tall women and women who eat a lot of dairy products may also be more likely to conceive twins!
Choosing a baby name can be hard enough, but with twins on the way, it’s probably twice as difficult. We’re here to help out with a list of twin baby names inspired by Hollywood’s most famous duos. Don’t worry, we’re not talking Simon and Garfunkel, Captain and Tenille, Laurel and Hardy, or Abbott and Costello. We’ve got a list of twenty pairs of baby names that are sure to top the charts in the coming years, and there’s something for everybody!
20 Amy And Tina
Amy Poehler and Tina Fey have known each other since the early 90s when they were struggling to make names for themselves in improv comedy in Chicago. Tina eventually moved to New York and landed a gig on Saturday Night Live. She was able to convince Amy to join the SNL crew in 2001. In 2004, both funny gals appeared in the super-quotable high school movie Mean Girls, which Fey wrote. Shortly after that, the ladies co-anchored the “Weekend Update” on SNL. Since then, they’ve starred in their own sitcoms, written books, appeared in several movies together, and co-hosted the Emmys and Golden Globes. These girls have definitely made their mark in Hollywood, and they’ve also remained really great friends.
19 Kenan And Kel
If you grew up in the 90s, then chances are, at some point, you watched All That (a Nickelodeon-aged variety show akin to Saturday Night Live) or the teen buddy film Good Burger. If that’s the case, then you know Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell, who also had a sitcom by the same name. Kenan and Kel was on the air for four seasons.
After six years of working together, the young stars parted ways. While it might have been strange for their fans to see them working separately, Kenan and Kel had to grow up sometime. Thompson eventually made his way to the SNL stage, while Mitchell worked in stand-up and appeared on a few TV shows. The two recently reuinted for a Fandango commercial and to perform a Good Burger sketch on The Tonight Show.
Twin Tip: Choosing baby names that start with the same letter? Then consider giving each twin a distinctly different middle name so that the kids don’t have the exact same initials. Sometimes names and initials can get mixed up (like when registering for school or filling out forms at the doctor’s office) especially considering the kids will have the same birthday, too!
18 Tim And Faith
Country music fans love Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. While they’ve each had their own successful music career, Tim and Faith have collaborated at least a dozen songs and have accompanied each other on several joint concert tours. McGraw has won three Grammy awards, 14 Academy of Country Music Awards, and numerous other awards. He has also starred in films such as The Blind Side and Flicka. Hill has won five Grammys, 15 Academy of Country Music Awards, and four People’s Choice Awards, among others.
They’ve also been married for twenty years and have three children together, all girls. While working hard to be amazing musicians and savvy business people, they also make their family and marriage a top priority.
Twin Tweak: Other famous country duos? Johnny Cash and June Carter. (Could change them to Jonathan and June… or Jane!) Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood. Naomi and Wynonna Judd. (Or Ashley!) There’s also TJ and John, like the Brothers Osborne.
17 Jack And Meg
Twenty years ago, John “Jack” Gillis and Megan “Meg” White got married at the age of 21. Instead of Meg taking her new husband’s last name, Jack changed his last name to White. Shortly after getting married, the couple became the rock music duo The White Stripes.
However, as the band gained popularity, they went onstage claiming to be brother and sister. Most people considered the made-up sibling story to be true, and were shocked to learn that the couple had really been married for several years. In a 2005 interview with Rolling Stone, Jack White explained that they concocted the brother-sister story line to try to draw the focus away from their relationship in the hopes of being taken more seriously, saying that when you think about a brother and sister, you just think that “they’re mated for life.” Jack and Meg divorced in 2000, but continued to make music and tour together, still proclaiming themselves to be brother and sister. They dissolved their musical partnership in 2007.
16 Tia And Tamera
These twins starred in the sitcom Sister, Sister and both currently have careers in television. Tamera Mowry Housley is a co-host on daytime TV’s The Real and Tia Mowry Hardrict stars in the Cooking Channel’s Tia Mowry at Home.
Although the two girls look very similar, they weren’t certain if they were identical twins. A 2013 DNA test revealed that they are 100% identical twins, the DNA analyst conducting the test explained that there are several reasons why some identical twins might not look exactly alike. Possible causes could be any minor trauma experienced during birth, like compression in the birth canal, or even how the twins shared the womb throughout the pregnancy.
Just because twins look a lot alike, that doesn’t mean they’re identical. Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen are hard to tell apart, but they are fraternal twins.
Twin Tidbit: Tia and Tamera have two younger brothers, Tahj and Tavior. The Mowry kids’ names all start with the letter T because their father’s name is Timothy. Their middle names all start with D, in honor of their mother, Darlene.
15 Scarlett And Hunter
Scarlett Johansson has earned the title of Esquire magazine’s sexiest woman alive – twice. She’s appeared in a wide variety of movie genres – everything from superhero action movies, to historical fiction, to romantic comedies, to animated films.
Scar Jo has a sister, Vanessa, a brother, Adrian, a half-brother, Christian, and a twin brother, Hunter. That’s right. The twice-named sexiest woman alive has a twin brother. So what does he do? Hunter Johansson is involved in politics. In 2008, he worked on Obama’s reelection campaign.
Maybe someday we’ll see him running for office himself. For now, he can often be seen walking the red carpet in support of his sister.
Twin Tidbit: There are tons of other celebrities with siblings you don’t often hear about. Miley Cyrus has a sister named Brandi. Jennifer Lopez has a sister named Lynda. Kate Hudson has a brother named Oliver. Adam Levine has a brother named Michael.
14 Gwen And Gavin
Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale were once one of music’s most rocking couples. The lead singers of the bands No Doubt and Bush, respectively, were married from 2002-2016. They have three boys, Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo.
Both Gwen and Gavin appear as mentors on the singing show The Voice. (Gavin is on the UK version.) It was on The Voice that Gwen met her current boyfriend, country crooner Blake Shelton. He was once married to country singer Miranda Lambert, and wound up getting divorced from her around the same time Stefani and Rossdale split up.
Gwen and Blake are an adorable couple, and the chemistry between them on The Voice had fans wondering early on if there was something going on. Since going public, they gush about each other in their music, in interviews, and on social media. They really do make the cutest couple.
13 Jason And Jeremy
Jason and Jeremy London are a little hard to tell apart because they’re identical twins, but you’ll recognize them from television shows and movies like Party of Five, Dazed and Confused, Mallrats, and The Man in the Moon. Jeremy was the one auditioning for the part opposite Reese Witherspoon in The Man in the Moon, but Jason decided to try out and ended up getting the part!
The two haven’t been on the best of terms recently, and both have had their fair share of trouble with the law. In 2010, Jeremy was kidnapped and forced to smoke crack. His family didn’t believe the story and feared that he made it all up to cover up his addiction to prescription meds. The court, however, ruled in his favor. Jeremy was also charged with spousal battery a few years later. Jason hasn’t been squeaky clean, either. He was arrested for assault and disorderly conduct in 2013.
12 Stevie And Lindsey
The band Fleetwood Mac has been through a roller coaster ride since it was formed in the late 1960s. Band members came, left, returned, married, divorced, had affairs, joined a religious cult, and battled drug addictions. The lineup changed numerous times. The one most fans are familiar with included Mick Fleetwood, Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, and John and Christine McVie was actually the 10th lineup change for the band. After all these changes, the band reunited for a tour in 2015.
Twin Tidbit: Other romantically linked rock and rollers? Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa. And that couple’s not lacking for marital drama, either. Bruce Springsteen was originally married to actress Julianne Phillips, but started falling for E Street Band member Patti. In the mid 2000s, rumors swirled that Springsteen was having an affair with a New Jersey housewife. Yet, all these years later, Springsteen and Scialfa remain happily married.
11 Will And Grace
Get excited! Will and Grace are returning for a 10-episode series which will air on NBC in 2017-18. The original crew of Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, Sean Hayes, and Megan Mullally are all set to return. The show premiered in 1998 and was the highest rated sitcom for viewers between the ages of 18-49 from the years 2001-2005. It was one of the first shows to feature gay characters in lead roles. In the time Will and Grace was on the air, the show was nominated for 83 Emmy awards, with 16 wins.
Some fans are already raising some concern over how this revival will take place, pointing out that in the 2006 series finale, when Will and Grace are moving their kids into their college dorm rooms, they run into each other for the first time in twenty years. If that’s the case, that would happen in the year 2026. So how are writers going to handle that situation, with the series returning, presumably, in real time 2017-18?
10 Sonny And Cher
Sonny Bono was hardworking and ambitious. Born to Italian immigrants, he tried to break his way into show biz after he graduated from high school. He worked as a delivery driver for a meat packing company, and in between stops, he would pop into record company offices to show off his songs. A few years later, he was working in the record business doing promotional work.
Cher met Sonny when she was only 16. Sonny got her jobs doing backup singing on songs like the Ronettes’ “Be My Baby” before forming their own musical duo. In 1965 they released their biggest hit, “I Got You Babe.” In 1971 Sonny and Cher launched their own TV show, The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour. The variety show was a success, but their marriage wasn’t as successful; the marriage fell apart after a few years.
9 Jordin And Jason
Jordin Sparks is one of the most well-known winners of American Idol. (She won season 6.) Her single “No Air” became the highest-selling single by any American Idol contestant. In recent years, her career has branched out to television, film, and Broadway.
Jason Derulo is a singer and songwriter who has collaborated with tons of musicians, including Lil Wayne, Pitbull, Snoop Dogg, J-Lo, Stevie Wonder, Keith Urban, and others.
The two started dating in 2011, but they broke up in 2014, claiming that their busy schedules and time apart made it difficult to keep the relationship going. It sounds like the break-up was kind of messy. He supposedly broke up with her over the phone, and she returned the BMW he had given her.
8 Jake And Elwood
“Joliet” Jake and Elwood Blues are better known as the Blues Brothers. John Belushi and Dan Akroyd both loved blues and soul music. Their love for the blues led to the creation of the Blues Brothers on Saturday Night Live. The pair began as a warm-up act before Saturday Night Live went on the air, and eventually became a featured musical guest.
Both Belushi and Aykroyd left SNL in 1979 to pursue their movie careers. The following year, they starred in the movie The Blues Brothers, along with legendary musicians Ray Charles, James Brown and Aretha Franklin.
John Belushi died in 1982, but Akroyd has had a long career in Hollywood, starring in movies like Ghostbusters, Driving Miss Daisy, Grosse Pointe Blank, and 50 First Dates.
Twin Tidbit: John’s little brother Jim, is also an actor, with many movies and Broadway roles under his belt. Jim Belushi and Dan Akroyd have worked together with Jim performing as Zee Blues, another Blues brother. They have also released their own blues album.
7 Britney And Justin
Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake were one of the hottest young celebrity couples in the late 1990s. The former Mickey Mouse Club members were super cute back in the day. Remember their matching head-to-toe denim outfits? They began dating in 1999, but split up in 2002 as rumors swirled that Britney had cheated on Justin with a choreographer. The break-up was addressed in the recently released Britney Lifetime movie.
Both of the celebs have moved on with their lives. Britney has two sons, Sean and Jayden, with Kevin Federline. She also currently has a hit Las Vegas show at Planet Hollywood. Justin has been married to star Jessica Biel since 2012, and the couple has one son named Silas.
6 Selena And Justin
In a lot of ways, Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber have kind of followed in Britney and Justin’s footsteps. The stars all got their start at a young age. They dated when they were young, and have been on-again and off-again several times. They’ve had lots of time in the spotlight, together and independently.
Selena won lots of us over when she gave a tearful acceptance speech at the American Music Academy awards in 2016. She had taken a break a few months prior to focus on her emotional health. She’s now dating the musical artist The Weeknd.
Justin began playing the drums as a small child. He also taught himself to play the guitar and the piano. He was discovered on YouTube and signed a record deal in 2008. The Biebs surprised us by looking all grown up in a Calvin Klein ad in 2015.
5 Nick And Mariah
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon were married from 2008-2016. The two have both had their ups and downs over the years. Nick Cannon is currently doing battle against NBC and has threatened to vacate his spot as the host of America’s Got Talent. Carey recently survived a lip-syncing disaster on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. But with a decades-long music career and a reality show, it is totally Mariah’s world. Her show, Mariah’s World, premiered in 2016.
Twin Tidbit: Nick and Mariah have twins of their own! Nick Cannon told People Magazine that when it came to naming the kids, the couple had been aiming for names that were “unique but not wacky.” Their son is named Moroccan Scott Cannon and their daughter is named Monroe Cannon. Monroe is supposedly named for Marilyn Monroe, one of Mariah’s inspirations. The kids’ nicknames are Roc and Roe.
4 Brandy And Monica
“The Boy is Mine” was a hit song by Brandy and Monica in 1998. The musical rivalry won the duo a Grammy award for best R&B performance by a duo or group in 1999. The two even paired up again in 2012 for another duet, “It All Belongs to Me.” But the feuds might not be just musical. In 2016, the two appeared to have a feud brewing on social media, with the ladies allegedly throwing shade left and right.
In addition to her music, Brandy is known for her roles on the sitcom Moesha and the horror flick I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. In the 90s, she was chosen as one of People magazine’s 50 most beautiful people int he world, and Teen People’s 21 Hottest Stars under 21. Monica also continues to make music and has appeared on Beverly Hills 90210, Living Single, and The Voice.
3 Matt And Kim
Known for their energetic live performances and eye-catching music videos, Matt Johnson and Kim Schifino have made a name for themselves as a power couple in the indie music world. While they’re not married, they’re most definitely a couple. You’d think that being in a band and a relationship could lead to trouble (lots of musical couples don’t last) but these two have been together since 2004. They spend all their time together in the studio, on the road, and at home, saying that they’re apart for “maybe five days a year.”
This is a couple that is full of love. They love what they do, and they love each other!
While their music isn’t necessarily a mainstream success, you might be familiar with some of their tunes that have appeared in recent commercials.
2 Rihanna And Drake
Rihanna and Drake (who needs last names?) met in 2009 shortly after Rihanna split from rapper Chris Brown. Though there were some sparks (some of Drake’s song lyrics sound like they could be about Rihanna; the couple did a duet in 2010) Rihanna often dismissed the rumors that they were a couple and said that they were just friends.
In 2012, Drake and Chris Brown allegedly got into a fight over Rihanna at a nightclub. Shortly after that, Rihanna and Chris Brown were back together, and Rihanna and Drake? Not so friendly for awhile. Rihanna and Chris Brown split again, and she and Drake were both tied to other celebrities for a few years.
Rihanna and Drake got together again in 2016, with Drake unabashedly declaring his love for her at the MTV Video Music Awards.
1 Taylor and …?
Taylor Swift is rumored to have been romantically linked to so many men over the years that you could easily pair her name with Calvin, Harry, John, Cory, Calvin, Tom, Jake, Conor, Joe, or… Taylor.
For twin girls, you could match the name Taylor with a name from someone in her famous girl squad. Gigi, Karlie, Cara, Ellie, Lena, Selena… Lorde? And Taylor just doesn’t hang out with gorgeous girl celebs… She’s still BFFs with kids she grew up with. She’s known Brittany Maack since they were just days old, and was recently the maid of honor in her wedding. She’s also still friends with high school buddy Abigail Anderson, who inspired Taylor to write the hit song “Fifteen.”
Twin Tidbit: Taylor is a common name that works well for girls and boys. However, in 2016, it was much more popular as a girl’s name, ranking at #90 for girls and #430 for boys, according to Baby Center.
