All about Doppler sonography
A Brief Note on Doppler Sonography
Doppler sonography is a technique which is used to measure the flow of blood in different parts of the baby while he or she is in the womb. It is done by using reflected sound wavers. The machine used though the pregnancy to listen to the heartbeat of the baby is called a handheld Doppler - it is also used to record the sound waves. Doppler sonography allows the caregiver or the doctor to understand the health of the baby. It is used on the woman along with the ultrasound scan.
Today most of the machines that are used for the ultrasound have the Doppler function installed in them. When you are taking the sonography, the sonographer will first pick a particular blood vessel that the person wants to evaluate. For example, this blood vessel can be an artery that is present in the umbilical cord. She can get the Doppler to function with the press of a button. There are two lights that allow the professional to understand the way the blood is flowing. One is red, and the other is blue. These two lights can be seen on the screen. The analysis is done through the machine. The process does not take a lot of time. In fact, it can be done at the time the pregnant woman is getting her ultrasound scan.
Situations When Doppler Sonography Is Used
This sonography that is done with the Doppler is generally carried out during the last phase or the third trimester of the pregnancy, particularly for women whose pregnancy is considered to be high risk or very risky. It is also recommended for those who have a very low amniotic fluid level, if she is expecting twins who are sharing the same placenta, and in cases where there is an Rh-incompatibility, or even in those instances where the baby's growth is not normal.
The practitioner uses the Doppler sonography to check the blood flow of the baby from the placenta or even in the baby's body. This is very helpful in cases where the placenta is not providing sufficient amount of blood that is needed for the baby or in cases where the baby has anemia, which could indicate that the blood is thin.
The practitioner will be in a better position to let you know if the labor should be done earlier based on what the results are. The person can guide you accordingly on what measures should be taken to protect the health of the baby.
This kind of sonography can also be done through an ultrasound through the v****a. This process ... continue reading
