Thanks to scientific breakthroughs, more and more women have been able to realize their dreams of becoming mothers in the past few decades. From fertility treatments to the ability to use one woman's egg and man's sperm and place an embryo in another woman as a gestational surrogate, women can go to big extremes to have a baby. And it's probably no surprise that many members of the Hollywood elite are using the procedure to expand their families.

On top of that, the reputation of celebrities as "too posh to push" has many people wondering if they are even willing to sacrifice their bodies to pregnancy at all. With a small — or hidden — baby bump and a short break in filming, many people question whether a pregnancy is real or whether it's a fake while a surrogate is actually carrying the baby. A body bounce back that means a celebrity is bikini- or camera-ready within weeks doesn't help keep the rumors at bay either.

Most of the time, though, we've found that the celebrities who use surrogates have a real fertility issue and are only doing what they can to have a child. And they usually admit it. So we've done the fact-checking, and have all the answers on those surrogacy conspiracy theories. Here is the truth about 15 celebrities and whether or not they were really pregnant.

15 Kim K.'s Baby-On-The-Way

Kardashian pregnancies have been the biggest celebrity news of the month, and of course among all of the hype is the rumor that Kim K. is using a surrogate to carry her third child. We're saying rumor right now because the news hasn't quite been confirmed. But there have been enough discussions in the past — and a really interesting trailer for the next season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians — to help us mark this one as true.

Kim's first two pregnancies were very complicated, and Kim has talked about how the condition of placenta accreta has done damage to her womb. The show has chronicled her attempts to get pregnant, including going through multiple surgeries. Even then, the doctor urged her to consider other options. We're pretty sure that she did, and that the baby will be here in the spring. We promise we'll stay tuned to confirm the answer.

14 Beyonce's Bump

No one will ever forget Beyonce's infamous collapsing baby bump. It happened in a tv interview, when Queen Bey's pink dress did a weird move while she was sitting down. We watched the footage in slow-mo more times than we should admit. And there were plenty of conspiracy theorists who swore it was evidence that Beyonce was faking her bump and her pregnancy. They counted the video as a sure sign that she had hired a surrogate.

There were also pictures of the new mother with sweet little Blue Ivy in the hospital, but all of the critics said she just looked too pretty and must have had a surrogate. But we call bull on this. If you have people who can come to the delivery room for a blow-out and makeup, that doesn't make you a liar; it makes you a pop princess. We're pretty positive that Beyonce gave birth to Blue Ivy, but of course, that won't stop the conspiracies.

13 SJP's Twins

When Sarah Jessica Parker was pregnant her oldest son James Wilkie, we all played a fun game of "spot the baby bump" every time we watched Sex in the City. Sarah Jessica's character Carrie was quite the fashionista, so the costume department got pretty creative to hide her baby bump. Baby doll dresses have never been so popular, since Carrie's dresses set trends on and off television.

There may have been people who questioned whether she had a surrogate because the bump was so hard to spot. But the truth is that SJP didn't go to a surrogate until seven years later, when she and her husband Matthew Broderick wanted to add to their brood. Sarah Jessica didn't need any wardrobe accommodations, even though this time it was twins. The family has admitted that a surrogate carried Sarah Jessica and Matthew's daughters Tabitha and Loretta, and those sweet girls captured their parents' hearts and ours.

12 Sorry, Ms. Jackson

Why do we love to hate on the Jacksons? They are definitely music royalty with dozens of hits on their resume, even with their share of tragedy through the decades. Of course there are tons of conspiracies and questions involving many of the members of the family, so we shouldn't be surprised that theories suffer every time someone announces a baby. That is certainly what happened to poor Janet, who had her first child this year.

Many people were excited hear that Michael's little sister was expecting, even though it put a damper on her tour and left concert-goers in mourning. Janet is definitely an older mom, as she has past the 50 mark. And she spent much of her pregnancy under the radar. When Janet was in public, she was mostly dressed in the more modest clothes that her Muslim husband preferred, and her pregnancy seemed to last forever. We get the reasons for questioning her pregnancy, but Janet never hinted at a surrogate. We are pretty sure that little Eissa wasn't born via surrogate.

11 Cousins Questioned

While we are pretty sure that Janet didn't use a surrogate for her little boy, that wasn't the truth for all of his famous cousins. Of course, there are conspiracies and debates about all of Michael Jackson's kids. Like many musicians, he lived an odd life, so it isn't surprising that people questioned just about everything about him, including his relationship with the mother of his oldest two Prince and Paris.

Debbie Rowe didn't seem to match the Hollywood glam life, but she wasn't a surrogate in the traditional sense. She was around for the kids first several years, and she reentered their lives as a mother after Michael's death. We're not sure about the mother of the third child, who is known as Blanket. Some say she was a surrogate, and while the concept was pretty new at the time, it might be true. We give this one a probably.

10 Nicole's Youngsters

When Nicole Kidman was married to Tom Cruise, the couple was very public about their struggles to conceive a baby. Instead, they ended up adopting two kids, Isabella and Conner. And that's why we were all shocked when she said she was pregnant after turning 40.

It seemed too good to be true for Nicole too, who gushed at the excitement of having a child on the way with her new husband Keith Urban. She marveled at the miracle and said that many of the families who participated in the filming of the movie Australia ended up pregnant; they literally blamed it on the water, a special body of water that they all swam in. While some people questioned whether she was really using a surrogate, Sunday Rose really was a miracle baby. Another baby came a few years later, and Faith was born via gestational carrier. Reportedly Nicole is interested in having one last baby. According to a Daily Mail article, she wouldn't rule out getting pregnant, since her grandmother gave birth at 49, which is her age now, but we're betting that any more children would likely come via surrogacy or adoption.

9 Princess Perks

Rumors circulate around royalty all the time. Between the conspiracy theories about Princess Diana's death and the father of her kids, it shouldn't be much of a surprise that people would start rumor-mongering when the British Royal Family announced the next generation of kids. Some tabloids have claimed that William and Kate's kids were born via surrogate.

We understand how it could happen. Kate is a really tiny woman, and her baby bumps have been small. Plus, she has suffered a severe of morning sickness called hyperemesis gravidarum that caused her to step away from the public spotlight for months at a time during all three of her pregnancies. But the monarchy has never breathed a word about a possible gestational carrier. In fact, they have announced the births of George and Charlotte and we witness Kate bringing them home from the hospital with her baby bump softened in the way that naturally happens after birth. We're still waiting on baby bump this time around, but Kate announced the pregnancy early due to her sickness, and she's still so small. We're sure her belly will pop soon, and the rumors will be put to rest.

8 Elizabeth's Boys

Making movies and making babies are very different things. If one comes easy, the other doesn't necessarily happen. That's the truth for Elizabeth Banks, who was one of the stars of the Hunger Games series and many other blockbusters. The odds were not in her favor when it came to conceiving a baby with her husband Max Handelman.

But the couple are the proud parents of two adorable boys thanks to the miracle of surrogacy. They welcomed their firstborn Felix in 2011 and his brother Magnus less than two years later. “Like Felix, Magnus was born via gestational surrogate. This experience has exceeded all expectations, taught us a great deal about generosity and gratitude, and established a relationship that will last a lifetime,” Banks said in a statement. We love the positive attitude and honesty, and we are so happy that she got to complete her family, no matter how her kids were born.

7 Jimmy's Girls

There have been so many Hollywood babies lately, and our favorite late night hosts have also been welcoming new little ones lately. In fact, both Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel — the two Jimmies of late night — have welcomed babies twice in the past five years. But only one of them used a gestational carrier to bring their progeny into the world. Can you guess which?

It's Jimmy Fallon, the host of "The Tonight Show," who has welcomed two daughters recently thanks to surrogacy. A lot of people were surprised when Fallon announced the births of his girls, first Winnie and then Frances, mostly because his wife Nancy was not pregnant in the months leading up to the births. But the couple has been open about their road to parenthood, including several years of struggling through infertility. Jimmy's daughters have been an amazing blessing, and we're so happy to see the king of late night so happy.

6 Zoe's Third Surprise

Zoe Saldana was pretty tightlipped when she was expecting her twins, but her growing baby bump gave her away, even though she barely confirmed the news. We all rejoiced when her sons Cy and Bowie were born. But everyone was shocked when they heard that Zoe is actually a mom of three. Her baby Zen was born earlier this year.

While we were elated, we were also a bit perplexed. Zoe never had the hint of a baby bump as she traveled around and appeared at tons of Hollywood events. She announced her baby's birth and that was that. The surprise has lead many to speculate that baby Zen was born via surrogate, but Zoe, ever the secret keeper, hasn't breathed a word. We really don't know if the conspiracy theories are true on this one. We would understand either way, and we also understand the need to keep mum about her personal life. One thing is for sure — life with three little boys must be crazy.

5 Model Mom

Another beautiful celebrity who all of a sudden announced she had a baby is Tyra Banks. The model had taken some time out from her crazy career, even allowing someone else to host her hit show America's Next Top Model, so we all knew she was up to something. But we were surprised to see that was a baby, when she introduced us to her sweet little guy York.

If you have been a Tyra fan, you were probably aware of her struggles trying to have a baby. While her career was definitely the focus when she was younger, she has been public about her desire to become a mother for several years. So for those who knew about her infertility struggle, it's probably no surprise to learn that little York was born via surrogate. She was ecstatic to have a baby no matter how he came, and we are so happy for her.

4 Paging Dr. Grey

When Ellen Pompeo had her first child, her scrubs and white coat worked hard to cover up her baby bump during filming of Grey's Anatomy. The show even wrote in a plotline where Dr. Grey donated part of her liver to explain her absence during maternity leave. But there was no hidden baby bump a few years later when Ellen announced she had Baby No. 2.

Ellen talked about the surrogacy process after the birth of sweet Sienna, and then she kept the secret again until the birth of her third child with husband Chris Ivery. Little Eli was born via surrogate late last year. There were plenty of conspiracy theories when Ellen was pregnant with her first child, so we don't blame her for keeping the impending arrival of her other kids. Plus, she wanted to protect her surrogate. For many people, the surrogate is part of the family, so they go to great lengths to protect everyone in their big, growing family.

3 Cancer Journey to Surrogacy

One of the most high-profile cases of surrogacy came from Giuliana Rancic, who was very open about her journey to become a mother after cancer treatments made it impossible for her to carry a baby. While she may have been the most public, she isn't the only woman who struggled to have a baby this way. Kara DioGuardi, a songwriter and former American Idol judge went through the same journey.

After the death of her mother from cancer and in the middle of going through fertility treatments, Kara found out she had the gene mutation linked to breast and ovarian cancer, and she had her uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes removed to reduce her chances of developing cancer. When it was time to have a baby, she didn't have the possibility of having one on her own. She ended up using a surrogate to have her little one, a boy named Greyson. Kara talked to People about it: "I have absolutely no regrets because now I feel empowered in my body. I feel like I took back some of the fear, took back control of my life and hopefully enabled my child not to have to go through watching his mother in a chair hooked up to chemotherapy."

2 Laura Linney's Secret

As we've mentioned before, having a baby late in life can be difficult, and not only is it harder to get pregnant but there can be complications for the mother and the baby. Some women are a little reluctant to talk about it in case something goes wrong. That's what happened to Laura Linney, an incredible actress who was one of the oldest women in Hollywood to give birth when she had her son a couple of years ago when she was 50.

She didn't bring up her pregnancy at first, and even as her baby bump grew, other people didn't ask her about it. So she stayed mum, knowing that her situation was unusual and not wanting to give false hope to older women who may have trouble conceiving. And Laura skipped the Emmy's that year, even though she won her fourth prize. Some people speculated that she was just too old to carry a baby and theorized that she must have used a surrogate, but Laura had her baby on her own. This conspiracy has been totally debunked.

1 Kylie's Baby Kit

We started with a Kardashian, and we'll end with a KarJenner. Everyone has been insanely excited about the rumors of a triple pregnancy for the mega-reality star family. It's so exciting to think about three beautiful babies arriving next year, but according to some conspiracies, there is actually only two babies on the way.

On Keeping Up, Kim has talked about the possibility of surrogacy for a while, and the family has discussed just about every sister — and even the mother — as possible candidates to carry the baby. When the baby news started, there were a bunch of conspiracy theories thrown out, including the possibility that Kylie is actually Kim's surrogate. Those rumors may have started because people don't want to believe that such a young woman at the height of her career would have her own little one, but it does seems plausible.

We don't think this one is true, but we're sure that we will find out at some point during this season of Keeping Up.
