My son is 16 months old in a few days and has been running a high fever all day of103. He has had tylenol every 4 hours but his temp keeps rising instead of going down.....Called his pedi, nurse said to give him motrin and theres no need to take him to the hospital even if he hits 106 or higher, that does not sound right to me. Isn't it at 106 that they can seizure and are supposed to go to ER immediately?? I looked on google haven't found an exact answer what the "go to ER temp" is at his age.... anyone know?? Help!

I take my son in at 103, most especially if I cant get it to break, but that's just me.

I would try the motrin. If his temp is still rising, I would take him to the ER. I don't care what the nurse says... 106 would be SCARY!

I don't take my son until it is over 104 and if tylenol.motrin won't bring it down. I then schedule an appt with his doctor to see if there may be an underlying cause of the fever that needs to be taken care of with something more. I try to avoid the ER at all costs. I also don't give tylenol or motrin until his fever is above 101.

If his fever is at 103 its not a big deal unless its going on for continuous days. Stop giving him tylenol and switch to motrn. Call his PED and dont even bother going into the ER. The ped is right. A fever of 103 is FINE.

I have always heard from moms that take their LO's in to the ER for fevers that the ER tells them just to alternate the motrin and tylenol..unless it is high 104 to 105, they try to wait and see if it gets resolved w/tylenol and/or motrin. Is he having any other symptoms like diarrhea or is he not eating or drinking or dehydrated? Have you tried doing lukewarm baths as well?

Aw no! Poor Dom!
I would take him into the hospital.

If they send you back home, try alternating Motrin and Tylenol every 4 hours thats the only thing that would get Levi's fever done last time.

Our hospital says 106.... alternate Tylenol and Motrin every 4 hours and put him in a cool bath. I got these Be kool gel sheets at walmart that help lower fevers, Good luck, hope he feels better for ya

Poor guy! I'd be freakin out if I were you. Evan has never had a temp that high, so I would probably take him in. I guess it depends on how he's acting though too. If he's drinking, peeing and all that jazz, I wouldn't be as concerned I guess. I hope the little boo boo feels better soon!!! And never second guess your Mommy instinct. Take him in if you feel its right :)
