My son was born at 35 weeks gestation and was able to come home with me right away and was never in the NICU or anything.
He sleeps, non-stop. I know this part is normal for a baby born early, but I'm just curious as to when he will 'wake up' and be more alert. I have barely even seen his eyes open! (This is totally different than my daughter, she was awake and alert from Day One, but she was born at 39 weeks.)
And if you breastfed, how much did they nurse? How often and for how long?
It's a struggle to get him to wake up to eat. He seems like he may be getting the hang of it, but he would happily go much longer than the recommended 3 hours to nurse. He actually already let me sleep through the night (well it was about 6-7 hours) and he's only 4 days old! That was the 2nd night, we have an alarm on my phone now to wake me up to make sure he nurses. Lol.
well arent you lucky lol
when were you due?
DD was born at 36 weeks, and slept non stop until almost 2-3 months old. Eating was a bit of a hardship as well. She would never be up long enough to learn how to nurse. Very hard time for both of us. Wish you all the luck!
my baby girl was born at 35 weeks and she was exactly the same my doc would tell me to feed her every 2-3 hours but she would wake up every 4-5 hours, she was hard to wake up:P I would bf her like almost an hour so yeah she would eat a lot cuz i still gave her formula
My son was born at 36wks. He seemed to sleep quite a bit. But he DID have a few problems at birth (Low sugar, low body temp, high resp) and did spend one night in the hospital but was able to leave with me after 36hours.
I had to wake him every two hours to be fed, otherwise he would have slept and slept and slept. I would say after about 2-3 weeks he was awake a lot more and more alert.
I had a lot of latch problems, to the point that I mostly bottle feed my breast milk right now. :( I was told I would have latch problems until about the time he was suppose to be born and my EDD was may 31st, he was born @ 36 weeks. he was in the nursery for breathing problems. my son I had to wake up to eat until about 2 1/2 weeks old, but he also had jaundice which might have been the reason why. now I just let him sleep and he wakes me up when he is hungry (usually I am awake when I hear him fussing around)
and still he isnt often really awake or alert. random times he is too. he sleeps through the day, then at night when we all go to bed together (co-sleeper) he wakes up to stare at me and my husband and we have a little play time thing. or sometimes randomly he will be awake during the day so we can have tummy time, but its not long after that that he gets hungry and I feed him and he falls back asleep.

Oh and good luck! if you have any problem bfing, I recommend you go to WIC and talk to the LC thats there. you shouldnt have to have WIC just to talk to the LC. the LC that is at my WIC office is amazing. I couldnt have gone as long as I have if not for her. its only been three weeks, but because of the latch problems and weight problems, it would have otherwise only been a week.
