Xavier (almost 2) swells up REALLY bad when he gets mosquito bites. Saturday night he got one just above his eye and today he woke up with his eye swollen shut. Usually it stops swelling in the first 24 hours, but not this time.
When I ask about his owie, he usually points at the wrong eye, so I'm sure it doesn't hurt but sill.. he was super cranky all day. I gave him an ibuprofen and in 20 minutes he was jumping and laughing. I've been pumping antihistamines every 4 hours but the swelling hasn't really gone down.
What do you do for your little one? I really wish I would have caught it before he went to bed so I could put an ice pack on it or something to maybe prevent the swelling, but it's definitely not going down.
my SO's 8-year-old daughter is allergic to them. we just slather her in bug spray before she goes out and if she does get bit, we give her benadryl and calamine lotion.
I would go to the ER for that, TBH
I think ALL LO's get bad reactions from mosquito bites, my youngest sister used to get them so badly they were like big welts if she was sucked by a mosquito, if it doesnt go down in the next 6 hours I'd go to the hospital.
How does his breathing sound? Does he have shortness of breath? Has he developed a rash anywhere on his body?
I used to be allergic to Gnats growing up- I would blow up like a freaking blimp if I got bit by them. Thankfully, I grew out of it.
when jett gets bit his bites swell up really big. but hes not what i'd call allergic.
now my friend rosie's two kids get bit and their whole bodies start to swell up and they are itchy all over and have trouble breathing so if she knows her kids are gonna spend a lot of time outside she applies lots of bug spray and gives them benadryl a half hour beforehand.
