How many ounces does your 15lb baby eat? Mrs. Banks [Griffin's mom TTC since Jan 2012; 1 child; 1 angel baby; Warminster, Pennsylvania 3910 posts

My son is a little over 3 months old and over 15lbs. He eats 6oz every 3 hours, and sleeps through the night (10-7). He totals 30oz per day. At his 2 month check up his pedi said 32oz is good for him. I read that a baby should eat around 2.5oz per pound for the day. So now at over 15lbs, he should get about 38oz according to that method. The last couple of days he's been fussing, only an hour and a half after a bottle, wanting to suck on his fingers and everything. I thought it was teething. He doesn't have red or sore looking gums and he always wants more after he's done his bottle. Then he will fuss for a few minutes afterward. Would it hurt to start giving him 8oz bottles every 3-4 hours? Or just an 8oz at night and 8oz in the morning, then 6oz of remaining bottles? Or could he possibly be teething?

FYI: He has been getting 6oz since 7 weeks of age. Before that at 4 weeks he'd eat 4oz every 2 to 2 1/2 hours and didn't sleep more than 3-4 hours through the night. We didn't know he had AR and he would eat to soothe the pain, he was always hungry.

My daughter at 15lbs and 4mo ate 8oz every 3 hours, so that'd be about 48oz. The dr then put her on rice cereal and baby food because she just wasn't getting full

I figure I won't worry about how much he's getting, etc. unless his weight begins dropping or he seems unhealthy. So far, I follow his instincts when it comes to bottles and solids and he's good and gaining weight right where he should be :)

Babies are really bad at lying or going hungry. That's what my doc told me, anyway. :) I wouldn't worry too much.
Layla, my little girl weighed 15lbs (weighing 8lbs 2oz at birth) at like 7 weeks. Yup, big girl. She was eating roughly 10-13 oz every 2 or 3 hours. We went to specialist upon specialist and all of them told us the same thing. She's just big. And she slowed down alot after that. She's still giant, though... At 7 months she's roughly 25lbs and 30 inches long and is crawling everywhere.
