do you think its ok to call your LO nicknames like "chubby, chunk, fatman, bigman, etc, etc, etc" names for "bigger" babies? not calling them fat, just cute nicknames like that.. i have heard mixed opinions on this... do you think it depends on their age or what? thanks! im just curious to see!
edit: my son is 5 weeks and i call him chunk and chunkman alot of the time..i dont see a prob with it, but i will stop when he gets older..i think its cute :) but one day my SO said him calling me a fatass was the same as me calling our LO chunk..so it got me thinking about the nicknames!
Quoting *ashlyn and winston's mom:
I don't see a problem with it.
I call brayden tubby, and chunky butt, cause he looks bigger then oliver.
and i call oliver my lil oreo and my teddy bear.
and they just smile at the nicknames, they don't seem to care:D
so i don't see a problem with it lol.
i think it is ok. but i also think it depends on age. i think it is cute to call chubby babies nicknames like that, but as soon as they understand i don't think people should use such nicknames. it could make them self consious and have a bad body image imo.
and also if you have older chilren that understnd, i think it might not be a good idea to use these nicknames on babies cause it could teach the older kids that it is ok to call people fat, chubby, big, ect.
as long as its not HEY FATASS LAY OFF THE FRUIT SNACKS i think your good
When my daughter was little, until she was about 9 months old, she used to be very chubby... I would call her "my little chunky-butt" -- everybody thought it was cute lol but that's just me I guess:D
I don't think it's a big deal as long as they don't stick forever. cause when they get older it may bother them. My son is 18 months and I call him meatball sometimes, chunka & mr cheeks. My mom calls him boog like boog the bear from Open season. cause he's big & cuddly like that fat bear. I LOVE his baby chunk haha. he was so small for so long it took us forever to get him to gain weight and when he did he went from -3 percentile at 10 minths to 49 percentile at 18 lol he gained it fast!
IMO, it really depends on the parent, but it doesn't bother me.
I don't think it's a problem unless they're like 10 and you're calling them chunkers or somthing.. lmao.
My baby was only chubby for like a month then she started crawling.. lol Hence Littlebutt :) During those few months where she was a little chubby I did call her chicken nugget though :)
Quoting Littlebutt's Mama♥:
SO calls our son sir tubs alot, tubby nugget, chunky, fatman.. Stuff like that.
My whole family says that he'll grow up with a complex, but i don't really think thats true unless SO calls him that when hes old enough to really understand.
I even used to call him tubbles.
ETA: Honestly, i think almost everyone does it.
