high pulse rate in first trimester! SaraL Washington 3 posts

So I am just a little frustrated because I all of a sudden have a high pulse rate and my blood pressure is already going up! Not sure if its anxiety or what but I had to go to the ER last week and they put me on medicine that I DO NOT want to take but I guess its better than cutting off the oxegen to my baby. I am only 22 years old so it is a little stange for me to be having these issues. My blood pressure before pregnancy was a little elevated. Anyone else have a high pulse rate between 100-130 BPM? I read that it does increase a bit but I am still concerned. The medicine helps but I am sooo worried to be on it!

What kind of medication did the doctor put you on?

My average pulse is usually between 90-100 bpm. Everyone's just different! I am sorry about your blood pressure!

yep, they say its normal. I had the same problem starting in my 1st trimester. It all started when I started bleeding and went to the ER. They said that my pulse was racing..122BPM and I said probably cuz I am way nervous about having a miscarriage. So ever since then I noticed that I had a high pulse. I went to my dr. and even a cardiologist and checked everything out. They said it was normal for your heart rate to go up due to all the extra blood and extra work your heart has to do. It even led me to have heart palpitations later in the second trimester. It was quite scarey but the dr.'s said it was normal after all those tests... my usual heart rate now is between 95-118BPM but when I am resting sometimes it will go down to 75 or 80.

I have a higher pulse since I became pregnant. It is around 105-110 bpm. I also have higher than normal bp. My doctor hasn't put me on any medication, but he is keeping a very close eye on it. My bp rangesfrom 120/60, which is normal to 149/80, which is kinda high. That is the highest it has been. Talk to your OB because the ER might not know what safe to give you. They are suppose to, but your OB will definitely know. I went to the urgent care clinic with a migraine that wouldn't go away and they told me to see my OB to get a prescription b/c they didn't want to give me something that would do more harm than good. Good luck.

Keep an eye on your blood pressure. Mine has always been normal but at the end of 20 weeks it suddenly shot up to 164/104. After spending a few days in the hospital and going on BP medication I'm doing better but now on modified bed rest at home for the rest of the pregnancy. If your BP goes up really high call your dr. and let him/her know as it could indicate problems with preeclampsia. I'm supposed to call if mine goes over 140/90 again.
