what do bruised ribs feel like? Myheartiscomplete 1 child; Allentown, Pennsylvania 1021 posts

I've never experienced pain like this- this is honestly worse than childbirth. On Friday afternoon my ribs started hurting- like mostly right under my boobs and down like 3 inches and then it wraps ALL the way around my back. Its SO sensitive to the touch that wearing a bra is excrutiating and just having my shirt rub against my skin there makes me cringe. Not only does my skin hurt but my rib bones actually hurt- it feels like a giant bruise wrapped around my upper torso.

Here's the kicker- I haven't done anything, other than lean over the crib to pick up my daughter, that would have caused this kind of pain. I've been leaning over the side of the crib to get her out for at least 6 months now- so why all of a sudden would this cause immense amounts of pain?

I dont know what to do- I figured if it doesn't go away by Wed. I'll call the Dr. but I'm hesitant cause I'm sure they'll just give me pain meds (and I want to know whats wrong).

Is it possible to bruise your ribs without like trauma to the area?

I feel pyscho asking this, but it seriously hurts SO bad, just lying down and picking up my daughter brings me to tears!

I've had that before and I never figured out what it was. It felt like it was my skin, like it was bruised all the way around. I know exactly what you're talking about.

I had the same thing - turned out to be a pulmonary embolism (a serious blood clot) and I nearly died from it just 4 weeks after giving birth - it is very serious, please go to your doctor immediately. It is physically impossible for the baby to kick you hard enough to bruise your ribs, and you probably didn't strain yourself that much either.
