How long did your 28 week preemie stay in the hospital? Wyatt, Bristol and Camden Due May 24; 3 kids; Gardiner, 4068 posts

Hey ladies, I'm looking for some general information to better prepare myself for what might be coming at the end of this week... I've received some news that I am showing some signs of preeclampsia and because of my history of this I might be facing a possible delivery as early as Christmas Eve depending on what they find and tell me then..
So what I'm trying to find out is roughly how long your 28 week preemies stayed in the NICU?? My first was born at 32 weeks 1 day and he only had to stay for 12 days, which I've been told is kind of uncommon... I don't hold my breath that I'd get that lucky twice, so I'm trying to prepare for the worst and hope for the best....

expect a lot more NICU time... weeks potentialy. Lung will be immature, they will be tiny and have to gain weight, probably tube fed because of lack of ability to suckle . they will have milestones they will need to accomplish to be able to come home.

I wish you lots of luck and your baby gets to stay in as long as possible.

I had Bella at 29 weeks due to pre-e. She was in for 60 days so a little under 6 weeks. They told me she came earlier then normal.

my son was born at 32 weeks and stayed for 6 weeks - he was alot sicker then most 32 weekers - i had no steroids because it was an ER c-sec for severe pre-e - there was no time between me getting in the hospital and having the c-section for them to give steroids

Thank you for the information ladies. I'm really hoping and praying that I can get at least to 32 weeks, because my first (son) was really strong for being 8 weeks early... The main good thing for me right now is that they have caught it early on if they end up diagnosing it officially as Pre-E, and I should be able to get a round of steroid shots to help the baby.
Ideally I want to make it to at least 36 weeks, because the likely hood of any major problems is very minimal at that point and I will get to deliver at the hospital I really want to rather than the one near by that has the NICU....

My son was born 28.3weeks and he has been in the hospital 23days now. We are expecting another month before he can come home. He has had to have a tube in his nose for oxygen and another tube to be fed breastmilk. He started being able to wear clothes about 5days ago. I didnt get to hold him everyday until he was about 2weeks old. He was born 2lbs 6oz and now weighs 3lbs 1oz. He is gradually making progress.

My son was born at 28.1 weeks and he spent 69 days in the NICU. He had to have 2 surgeries though; PDA and hernia. He is a happy healthy 20 month old now though!

I hope your BP is higher than it was last time!

Faith (28 weeker) stayed for 39 days and Ethan (29 weeker) stayed for 34 days. Neither got steroid shots - so if you know you're going to deliver and they can do them, that would help too! Good luck!
