black cohosh tea S H A R O N ♥ 1 child; California 1358 posts

I was talking to a friend of mine earlier and she told me she drank some cohosh tea as a natural way to help induce labor, and it really worked for her. I'm going to talk to my OB on Monday and ask her if it would be safe for me to try this. But i'm wondering if any of you ladies have ever tried cohosh tea before?

I've done lots of walking, have had lots of sex, but if i can try another safe method then i might as well give this tea a shot if i get the OK from my doctor.

(i'm trying natural ways to kick start labor because of my OB wanting to induce me before i reach 40 weeks due to gestational diabetes. I want to try to completely avoid any medications given at the hospital to induce labor)

If I remember correctly either black cohosh or blue cohosh or both can be poisonous. I did some research when I was pregnant and I remember reading something about that.

Dont do it!

I dont think your OB is going to tell you do try to naturally induce yourself. Unless medically necessary you signed up for 40-42 weeks.

I'm not saying i'm absolutely going to do this ladies. Kick back.
I would never ever put this baby in danger. I still need to do some more research on the tea and talk to my doctor about it.

And yes it is medically necessary to have the baby before 40 weeks because of babies growth due to gestational diabetes.

I've heard black cohosh tea is dangerous and blue cohosh is aswell. Ask your OB about accupuncture and maybe some massage therapy with a liscenced practitioner. I am 37 weeks and have asked the doctor about natural induction methods, and the only ones he okayed were those 2 and said to be very careful. Accupuncture is used very frequently in Asia as a method to induce labor and usually in the accounts I recieved most women go into labor within 48 hours of having it done. I went in for a massage this week and she stimulated pressure points on my ankles and I started having contractions. I have an accupuncture appt set up for this up coming week when I'll be atleast 38 weeks which is what the doctor suggested and its the earliest they'll do induction accupuncture at the wellness center! GOOD LUCK!!!!!
