He's 15 months, has a little cough and a runny nose. I was going to get him benadryl but I thought I'd ask what you all would do. Thanks!!

He's hating the tissue right now. I don't like to give him meds if not needed but he's a little miserable :( Also, he has a cracked lip I've been putting lanolin on it, is there anything else for that?

You can't give Benadryl to a 15 month-old. :? They're not supposed to have until 2 at the earliest...and evven then it's supposed to be doctor-recommended until 5.

It sucks, but all you can really do is suck out his nose and give him Tylenol for the pain.

Funny because Rhiannon had it at 16 months.....at the ER...
But anyway lots of liquids....Look up the weight limits and etc. for Benedryl or call your pedi and ask them what dosage...A pharmicist could also tell you the correct dosage for his age/wt.
Good Luck hope he feels better soon!

Okay then...it says right on their bottle not to give it to them until they're two. But I suppose if a doctor gave it to them...then whatever.

Id pick up aveeno chapstick.

As for the nose. Grab some boogy wipes. Theyre saline wipes for noses. I personally wouldnt give meds for what sounds like a common cold. Nothing cures the common cold. Make him some chamomile tea and soup. And push fluids as much as possible.

I give my son benadryl (per doctors recommendation with a lower dosage). Also, go get Boogy wipes (with natural saline in them for wiping his nose). Get him some Pedialyte and push the fluids...even if it's mostly chocolate milk.

Funny you guys are all responding and agreeing with that girls post. They CAN NOT have benadryl under the age of 2 with out a doctor's recommendation for dosage.

And this boy is not in need of benadryl. Nor any medications.

He's having cuddle time with daddy right now, good medicine. I just feel so bad for him, he's only ever been sick once. But you're right he doesn't need anything, I held off giving him a fever reducer this weekend and his fever is completely gone, just runny nose and little cough

Rest, fluid, and cuddles are the best medicine for little ones of all ages. Medications should always be the last resort. They can do more damage. Its good you didnt give the fever reducer. His fever was fighting something and lowering the fever makes whatever it was fighting have the upperhand and grow. His body will heal itself. Just make him comfy.

I tend to give in more when my daughter is sick. I give things to her I wouldnt normally, like a cookie, if she asks. And I dont require a bedtime. And I even co sleep with her. :P
