I am struggling with this... My son is 2.5. When we go to a store or are out anywhere, he is super friendly! He likes to say "HI" to everyone! Lately he's been getting closer and closer to the person when he's talking to them and now he insists on giving them hugs! lol Most people think its super cute... but its really awkward to have to pull him off a stranger in a store! LOL the real problem here is I dont want him to be TOO comfortable with strangers! and I dont want to cause a "fear" for him of strangers either! Part of me feels like he's too young for it to be a big deal... and I know part of it is he has a speech delay so he's got to express himself in a more physical way. So that part of me says I should just let it go.... but the other part of me CRINGES when it happens and wants to snatch him away and tell him thats not ok!! lol

I think, and hope, that it is just their age. My son just turned 2 last month and he is super friendly as well. He says hello, goodbye, and likes hugging people (not complete strangers, but he loves giving hugs to everyone and especially people that we don't necessarily associate with much). I don't mind so much right now but when he is a bit older, I am going to teach him the difference between being polite and not talking to strangers.

My son is 2 and he will go up to DH's friends and hug their legs and stick his face right in their crotch. So awkward haha

Rhiannon hugged a random lady in McDonald's the other day! I thought it was sweet and I don't want to disencourage her to be accepting of people so I am going to let it go.

If you are uncomfortable with it, maybe tell him to give high fives instead?

my niece will be two next month and she's nearly the same way. she doesn't hug strangers, but she is super friendly. i admit, it's adorable, but you raise a good point-you don't want him to get too comfortable with strangers. i would suggest trying to teach him that hugs are for special people, and that you do so in a way that doesn't instill fear of strangers, just a little extra caution. i imagine that's easier said than done though, so i wish you luck!

I'm really hoping it's an age thing too. DD is 2.5 too and she always tells every person she passes Hi, What you doing, and trys to hug them. If they don't say Hi back she gets really mad at them and it breaks her heart. I've actually had a few strangers tell me how I need better parenting skills about not letting your children talk to strangers.

Owen too!!! He will just get louder and louder with his "HI" until they respond! LOL no one as ever SAID anything to me about it but I have gotten some looks in the store for sure!! I dont mind him talking to them at all! He's GREAT in the store (he walks with me and helps me push the cart and puts things in for me!... he's NEVER acted out in the store ) so they can kiss my butt about that! LOL Its the physical contact that bugs me! lol

Ive only had 2 people say something to me, both was at walmart. They was old creepy looking men. Ella never acts out on me when we're in public minus the screaming at whoever she said Hi too. She just started the whole hugging everyone. I've been trying to get her to do high five's or something to get away from it.
