Trisomy 18 and choroid plexus cyst? *heather sue 3 kids; Grafton, West Virginia 163 posts

Had an ultrasound done with the fetal specialist yesterday and they said the boy twin has an enlarged kidney. Both babies have a choroid plexus cyst on the brain. The doctor says these are both markers for trisomy 18, but since their limbs and other organs appear normal that I should not worry! The chance is like 1 in a 100 of them having it. They will continue to moniter the growth of my placenta and my fluid levels at 24 weeks. I have yet to seee my regular OB to discuss the results. Has anyone else had markers like this for Trisomy, and if so, was your child born with this genetic disease. I know choroid plexus cysts are common during the beginning of a pregnancy, but I thought it was odd that both babies have this going on! Thanks for any input! Keep us in your prayers.

My LO had one a cyst at 18 weeks when we had the gender ultrasound done so my OB ended up sending me to see a specialist. My SO and I were super worried but when I went to see the specialist the second time, it was gone, that was around 24 weeks I think. They told me that 99% of the time, the cyst will go away on its own. My little girl is 3 and a half months now and is perfectly healthy so don't get stressed about it!

i have read that they often go away around 24 weeks, but the fact that the boy has an enlarged kidney freaked me out too! But, then again I read that this can be caused from a narrow opening also. Good to hear that other moms have had this and everything was ok! Hopefully at the next ultrasound things will have gone away. :D

i actually noticed one on my sons head when i had my 20 week scan about a week and a half ago, my doctor has been away so i havent heard from him yet about it.. i also heard that they were quite common at this stage, usually the doctors dont even mention them i guess unless there is another marker, which i noticed his fists were clenched. everyone i've talk too seems to think that it's nothing to worry about. i hope for the best for you & your babies !
