doctors put me on 100mg of topamax and 100 of wellbutrin. I know both of them have weight loss as a side effect, but i took it for a couple of weeks and it didnt do anything! argh. I stopped taking it because my insurance got cut off for a bit, but im restarting it tomorrow. Im taking it for depression, but i told the doctors i wanted meds that dont have weight gain.. But anyway. Anyone have weight loss luck with any of those meds?

I gained weight on Paxil. Both weight gain OR loss are side effects. It depends on the person. Don't go off and on the meds too much without tapering off! I have been on Paxil for 11 years, and it's a nightmare and can make things worse if you just stop taking them without slowly decreasing dosage. I know you had insurance issues, just be careful! I don't want anyone to have to go through what I did while on meds.

I was on both. Wellbutrin sucks ass, but Topamax doesn't generally have a weight loss side effect until 250mg.

Whats the Topamax for?

Topiramate (Topamax) is an anticonvulsant medication approved for use alone or with other medications to treat patients with epilepsy who have certain types of seizures. Topiramate is also approved for use to prevent migraine headaches.

I was diagnosed with BPD years ago, was this your PCP or Psychiatrist who put you on this? I just hadn't heard of it being taken for that. They prescribed my Lithium for my problems, it made them worse. They said wait for 3-4 months to see how I reacted to it, but I just kept declining, so someone finally smartened up and took me off of it. The Wellbutrin was HORRIBLE also, I've only heard of a few people who did okay with it. Watch if you start to have increased anxiety attacks for thoughts of suicide.

Well, I was prescribed trileptal (an anti-seizure med) when I was diagnosed BPD. Some meds like that have alternative uses as mood stabilizers.

Exactly. I was on Risperdal, I had just not heard of Topamax as being used as one.

Sorry :)
Yeah, a lot of meds double up for stuff, I'm on an anti anxiety that is prescribed to lower blood pressure. My docs look at me funny when I say that is REALLY the name of the med I'm on :)

I am also on topamax and wellbutrin although my dosage is MUCH higer. 250mg/topamax and 400mg/wellbutrin. I lost about 15lbs in the beginning but nothing more. My sister was on wellbutrin and gained 25lbs.

I'm on 200 mg of Topamax a day. I didn't have any weight loss... sucks! I've tried Wellbutrin a couple times and it gives me horrible anxiety so I've stopped it. Are you sure it's the Topamax that's making you feel all jittery? The only side effect I have from Topamax is numb feet here and there but I know everyone is different.

I guess now that I think about it at first it really did give me that "Dopamax" effect where I'd be talking and I'd just forget what I was talking about. Haha. I've been on it for almost 2 years now so that's really gone away now. How long have you been on it?
