Facial piercings during labor. Mrs Emery 2 kids; Wahiawa, Hawaii 1655 posts

I have my monroe (upper lip) and my nose pierced and I know that some hospitals make you remove any jewelery. (exception: ear rings) anyway I was wondering if I could wear a clear rubber plug so my hole doesn't close up? Why would any facial piercings get in the way of a medical emergency?

I had to take my nose stud out, and keep it out until after my son was born.

I never had to take any of mine out. I have my eye brow tongue belly and ears all done. I left them all in unless the docs said otherwise. But they didnt.

I had to take out my tongue ring, tragus ring, and all jewelry when had a c-section. They use a laser knife type thing during surgery and I could've gotten burns where my jewelry was. Vaginal labor, though, I don't know the policy.

I've never had to take anything off/out. I kept all my jewelry on.

I had to take mine off, but they taped over the tragus since it doesn't come out except with like pliers, heh.

They might be ok with a plastic one and then taping over it.

hmm I can understand why for a c-section but not a vaginal birth.. I mean if they ask me to take it out I will but hopefully I'll be able to wear a plug.

I guess in case an emergency arises.

Probably because of the risk of an emergency c-section.

My hospital requires that you remove all piercings, not all hospitals do though. Just be sure to ask what their policy is.
