Ok, Cubby hasnt pooped in almost 8 days, poor little guy is miserable. He is now 35 weeks gestation and a little over three weeks old. His little tummy is so hard and bloated and he is so fussy, he isnt nursing as often now too. In the hospital he was going with every feeding and was getting foritied breastmilk. When he came home the pedi said stop fortifying his BM and feed him from the breast (which he has done awsome with)
Ive tried a warm bath, bicycle legs, vasoline around the bum, the tip of the thermometer, warm baths and nothing is helping. His doc wont do anything until its been ten full days :(
Will it hurt if i put a few drops of juice in a bottle of BM?

Try squirting a little bit of warm soapy water in his little tush, it may help soften his stool

You should call your dr rather than be on here.

Then wait until day 10. most babies don't need to defficate that often. One of my girls would hold her bm's for a week or more. Breastfed babies are notorius for that!

yes. Try gripe water. She would fart so bad that it would seriously burn my nose. lol It would take about 2 days after her little farts started for her to blow out a diaper! lol Just be on the look out!

my son was like that at first. we used either the warm soapy water as the other mama suggested or we bought pedialax, liquid glycerin suppositories. both worked miracles within 2 minutes. *EDIT*- fyi we only used half the glycerin suppository.

I have never heard of fortified breast milk. In the hospital, they told me that breastmilk changes depending on how early your baby is. I always thought it had the amount on nutrients a baby needed especially when they are born early.

My son was born at 36weeks which isn't TOO early. Maybe it was different for me.

I am sorry his tummy hurts :[ I hope he potties asap!

Breastfed babies can take up to 10 days to poop. It could just be gas for right now and not constipation. It's very rarely that a BFB will be constipated. Is the baby straining, like trying to poop? If the tummy is just tight and she/he seem uncomfortable, just give some gas drops and see if that helps. Never use a laxative on a baby unless the doctor gives you the okay.

whn my son got constipated my mum told me a trick that she used on us..
50ml of warm water and 1tsp of brown sugar...as long as he drinks about 10mls it would help..
other thing was 10ml of prune or cranberry juice...
hope ur lil one poops soon...

If you are breastfeeding there is no reason for him too be constipated. It's liquid. Breast milk breaks down and should come out a yellowish diarrhea.
My youngest didn't poop for nearly 9 days and the dr wasn't to concerned. Though it gave her bad gas and made her bloated she told me as long as I am just breast feeding she is fine and will work it out.
I was also told not to give her enema.
You can try a little bottle of warm water for him to drink. That may help a little.

you can mix prune juice in with your breastmilk.......no more than a tablespoon a day.....i would start with a teaspoon and give him 12 hours......we did this with our preemie, and still do
