Transvaginal Ultrasound - Gender? [Three K's] 3 kids; Pennsylvania 2850 posts

Okay so due to some more weight loss from the HG, my doctor is sending me for a transvaginal ultrasound in 2 weeks to see if its effecting the babys growth. And if it is, I'll be getting an "at home IV" and a nurse.
Anyways, my question is, I'll be 17 weeks for the transvaginal ultrasound, can you tell the gender by transvaginal or only by the traditional ultrasounds? I'll be having my regular 20 week ultrasound as well but I'm just hoping to know the gender sooner rather than later. Anyone know????

why are they doing a transvaginal? I had an on the belly u/s at 16 weeks & you could see everything...

I've always heard that you could tell at 16 weeks.

I'm not sure why its a transvaginal vs. regular. But I know it took him about 20 minutes to find the heartbeat today. Although he said it sounded very good, idk if that's maybe a sign that the baby is small since it took him so long? I mean he searched all over my belly!!
I didn't realize it was transvaginal until I was checking out at the recepionists desk and she handed me the "script" for the ultrasound and it says pelvic ultrasound or whatever, for fetal measurements.

I know the sex organs or whatever develop at 12 weeks and I found out my first son was a boy at 15 weeks. But it was by regular ultrasound. I've never had a transvaginal one this far along so I wasn't sure if it shows up the same or not?

i am not sure, but i would say it depends on the baby's position maybe? since they can't move it as freely as a belly u/s
Good luck mama :D

My first scan at 9 weeks was a vaginal one and it's pretty detailed considering it's only 9 weeks. most 8-9 week scans i've seen show a blob and not much else but this shows a baby shaped blob lol with wriggly arms and legs. the scanner is so close to the baby it picks up every feature but it would depend on the baby's position to determine the sex i'm sure. They have some degree of movement to play with but obviously notas much as a belly scan. my scan pics are in my album if you want to see anyway. hope this helps.

Your 9 week ultrasound definately looks alot more detailed than mine. LOL I had a transvaginal at 7 weeks and baby just looked like..Well...a peanut. lol I'm sure it all depends on babies position and if he/she is going to cooperate or not. I just wasn't sure if it was even possible to see gender from a transvaginal or if you could only tell by regular ultrasounds.

I had an abdominal u/s at 17ish weeks & you can very clearly make out her girlie parts. So I bet as long as baby is in a good position you'll be able to tell. Good luck! I know how it is to sooo badly want a girl! I was terrified going in to my u/s and I almost backed out of finding out what it was for fear of diasppointment. When those lovely 3 white lines came up on the screen I bawled like a baby! And then I had her check it 3 more times.... =)
Pink dust to you!
BTW I love the booties on ur avi, did you make those??

I sure hope so. My luck, baby will ahve its legs clenched tight and will be head down or something so we can't see. lol! I sure hope not. And I pray its a girl. I've become such an expert at seeing boy parts show up on that screen, I'm probably gonna pass out if I see a willy. lol

Yes, I made the shoes in my avi. :) I crochet all kinds of stuff - Mostly for girls cause its more fun. lol But I can do boy stuff too. Headbands, flower flips, sandles, etc.

I was a freak about looking at u/s pics on the net so I could determine for myself what the baby was before she had to say anything. So when she was getting the crotch shot she paused it & the umbilical cord was sticking out between the legs, but I still saw the 3 lines & I started bawling before she said anything, she thought that I was crying because I saw the cord & thought it was a boy. She was like its a girl hunny not a boy & I was like I knoooooow (in between my wailing sobs lol)
I sooo wish I could crochet things like that! Im a SAHM now & I really need a hobby!
