My apologies if this has been asked before...

My LO has been using the potty every night before bath time for 4 months, and they have finally transitioned him to a class at his dayare where we can FINALLY start working on it full time! :) My questions is:

What do you think is the best method is for the process as far as what to put on him day and night?

Some say pull ups are too similar to diapers, so whats the point in spending the extra money for less. Others say dont switch to underwear until he is completely trained. The other thing I am not clear on is nap and night time...is it still ok to use diapers, and for how long? I guess finally my question/concern is travelling in the car nad being out in public....how do you manage it?

My LO will be 22 months old on Monday.

I am just really starting to read and research everything, but these are the first questions and biggest concerns that I haved right now. TIA

Underwear during the day! FOR SURE!

My 4 year old wears a Pull Up at night but never has accidents, he's always dry in the morning.

Underwear during the day and pull ups at night. Although what I used to do was out underwear under the pull ups so that if there was an accident shed still feel it rather than it be absorbed into the pull up.

My 21 month old is just recently potty trained at home, we still use diapers when we're out and for sleeping

We use the pullup kind of diapers for when we need to use them, but i dont recomend using them full-time. It will just confuse him, it feels like a diaper so he wont understand that he needs ot do anything different. I just put my daughter straight into knickers and took her to the toilet every hour and while she sat there i would constantly say 'your doing wee-wees bella' 'your such a big girl' etc etc and after about 2wks she started comignt o me and telling me she needed to go :)

At all possible during the day (even on trips) try and have him in underwear. Pullups are too diaper like and convenient. I say use pullups if you have to at night or you can buy a plastic bedcover to put under his sheet. This is what I have for my 3 yr old. He rarely has an accident...but then he's been PT'ed since 19months. Which was a total fluke all in itself.

after training 2 boys, I say leave the pullups for naps/long trips/bedtimes. Keep them in training underwear until accidents are a little more minimal, then regular underwear.

When I'm on a grocery run I tried to keep them in their underwear (bringing an extra pair of underwear and pants just incase) and just asked them like every 10min if they had to go to the potty. I have never had an accident at the store.

Once he can go a few hours without any accidents, or just stay dry, you can dump the pullup for naptime and just keep him in underwear. I would make sure he goes potty before going to sleep though. bedtimes will take longer though.

Also for trips, at first, Id put undies on and then a pull up over for the same reason as when I do for bedtime. I make sure to take her potty before we leave and as soon as we get to the store I ask, depending on how long the trip is I make her go regardless. While shopping I ask her frequently if she has to potty, if she goes at th store in the potty then Id get her a treat.

see this is where I am struggling, b/c I agree with all of you to basically go all or none during the day...meaning underwear all day and only a pull up while sleeping, simply b/c they do feel too much like diapers. My problem is that his daycare says no underwear until fully trained b/c of health..I am like wtf!!! How are we supposed to get this done then? Just putting him in pull ups is only going to drag out the process so much longer :(

Has anyone used a traning pant similar to cloth diapers? I wasnt fortunate anought to go the cloth diaper route, b/c I work full time, but I was thinking maybe since daycare wont allow straight underwear, but to avoid the diaper like feel of pull ups, a cloth pant with a plaastic shell would be good.

What brands are there, or what are best? I red in the PT post about one brand at wal-mart, but like I said I know nothing about what brands are considered the best ;)

is there a way you can do the underwear under the pullup?

wow thats a pretty crappy daycare, how do they expect you to train your kid??
I would tell them that if they want him in pullups then they can supply them, those things are expensive!!

It was the one question I didnt ask when he started going there as an infant, and I didnt realize this was their rule until he was about 13 months old...I was pissed! I get what they mean about being an issue health/cleanliness wise, but still, I have never heard of a daycare saying no undewear until fully trained b/c of accidents :(

my daughters daycare has a special solution that they spray onto the carpets every night(and also onto any spots where children have accidents immedialy after it happening) so that its not unhygienic. i wish i knew what that stuff was haha :D

Is it the toddlers room hes in? I just cant understand how they expect you to toilet train your kid if they wont let him wear underwear :? Especially if hes in full-time, you onyl have a few hours at night to work on toilet training, and he'll prob only pee 1 or 2 times during then anyway...
