Mirena becoming dislodged during sex? Hunters_mommy 1 child; Peoria, Arizona 5036 posts

My son just turned a year old March 30th and I got Mirena at my 6 week PP appt. I fear that I may be pregnant again, I haven't taken a test yet but my boobs have been hurting and my acid reflux has been acting up terribly (both prominent symptoms in my last pregnancy)

My questions, can Mirena become dislodged during sex or other activities? Has this happened to anyone? If so how did you find out that it fell out? Is there anyway to check if it is still in place on my own? When should I test, since I don't get periods and these symptoms are only a few days old at the most, when would I be most likely to get an accurate result?

(I'm waiting for my health insurance to renew so I would like to avoid the doctors for now if at all possible)

TIA ladies!!!

If you check, you should be able to feel the strings at the edge of your cervix.

With Mirena you get pregnancy symptoms all the time. However, yes it's possible for it do move or even fall out after sex, but not very common. Your suppose to check for the strings every month. If you can feel them, they are more than likely in place. I would wait a week or two then test.

I will try this, I don't want to freak out though at my last appt I had the doctor cut the strings shorter because they were poking SO and he said they can't be cut any shorter after that, do you think that would affect me being able to feel them?

Ugh scary stuff, ok next question is it dangerous for the baby for it to be floating around in there?

My doctor left mine kind of long. Like maybe 3/4 of an inch. So it kinda comes out of my cervix and goes up the outside. So that it's not short enough to "poke" SO.

Should I have SO feel around in there? I want to make sure I don't freak for no reason if I can't find them

Thanks mama! If I'm not preggers now I definitely need to start checking for the strings regularly

Sit in the bathtub and kinda pull your legs up towards your chest and that pushes your cervix to a more reachable place. It feels like your nose with a small hole in it. They should be sticking out of there. I'm kinda surprised your doctor didn't tell you how to check.

Nope he didn't even tell me to check regularly so i never knew I was supposed to, all he said was at my follow up, if it didn't fall out by then then it wasn't going anywhere. I guess it's time to get a new doctor.......thanks for the info though, I will try that also

No problem, I've found the best way to check is to get nakie, put a towel on the floor, and pull your legs as far back to your chest as you can. Then feel for it. Mine are cut extremely short and I can easily feel mine like that.

My doctor told me they're not recommending women check them anymore because they were getting a lot of women freaking out because they couldn't feel the strings and really they just weren't reaching far enough.

OP- check them like said, but I get pregnancy symptoms from my mirena all the time. I feel pregnant constantly. It sucks. lol

It can be hard, but you can sorta poke a little bit up inside your cervix if need be. My strings curled up in there once. You'd think you could see or feel it if it were to fall out. But if you are pregnant and it's still in there it could be a danger to the both of you. I would pee on a stick soon if I were you. :?
