Heart racing while resting? Elli Belly 1 child; United Kingdom 21 posts

Im laying on the couch resting. All of a sudden my heart starts racing. Only for about 5-10 seconds. But it really took me by surprise, and it seemed to be really loud.
Im 12 weeks pregnant. The same thing happened a few weeks ago.
I dont remember this happening with my last pregnancy.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any health proffessionals out there know what this is or why it happens?
Thanks people x

were you laying on your side or your back? When i was earlier and laying on my back my heart would race really bad. my doc said to lay on my left or right side becuase when you lay on your back pregant your uteris slows down the blood flow to your heart and legs and baby, and that can make it beat faster.

happened to me, although not until later in my pregnancy... I guess it has to do with the greater volume of blood or something or other, and it's normal.

I had that when i was around 10-14 weeks. I asked my dr. and they just told me that an occasional racing heart is normal. I thought mine was gonna pump right out of my chest! Mine also does that when i need to eat.

Yeah, it's happened to me and my hubby gets it some times it's not a big deal. My mom (a doctor) said to just stick your hand under cold water and splash it on your face. It doesn't mean anything is wrong.

The same thing happened to me...as far as I know it's normal. I know during pregnancy your blood volume increases, I think that might have something to do with it.

earlier this month my resting heartrate was 123bpm -- after sitting for 2hrs straight.

I happened to be at the doc's doing a 3hr GTT, so the doc took an extra vial of blood to test my thyroid, which came back a lil below normal.

The racing heartrate could have to do with a thyroid being out of balance. Only a blood test will tell for sure...

It's some thing called the "vena-cava" ( or close to it!) that's the major vein that returns your blood flow back to your heart from your legs. Most women experiencerapid h/bwhle lying on their back, just roll over. It's not all that dangerous, but keep in mind, you're cutting off blood supply to the baby which also lowers the oxygen level, so It's worth it to listen to your body. Plus if you lay that way for long, you'll experience other effects: shortness of breath, tingly fingers...If you can't stay on your side, lay with an angled pillowunder your back. I experience that while lying on my back AND right side, so I can only lay on my left.

this has been happening to me since about 10 weeks, doesn't matter if i'm sat, stood or laying down, i got really worried and had blood tests done and blood pressure checked but all came back fine and my midwife said it could be my heart getting used to coping with all the extra blood in my system...

This has happened to me a few times. I'll just be sitting around or laying down and my heart will pound really hard for 10 beats of so. It scares me everytime!
