I have some neighbors asking me to watch there kids while they go to work full time. I am willing to do so but I am wondering how much I should be charging them. I already have two kids.. a 2 1/2 year old and a one year old and I would be watching 3 of their kids, which are ages 9 months, 2 years and 3 1/2 years.

A lot of ppl I know pay 20-25 a day for one kid. My SIL and BIL pay $250 a week for 2 kids. My cousin pays $50 a day when she needs a sitter for 3 kids

Here is the thing, if you aren't licensed, CPR certified, Bonded, Insured or even a teacher you really shouldn't charge as if you were a facility. I watched 2 kids and charged the family $150/ week. Most families can't afford the facilities so that is why they come to you. For me, I see the fee as extra food cost, and minimal deposit toward broken toys and messes. lol

For 3 kids those age I would charge $200/ week and that is based on my general location. Try to keep in mind what the average income is for your area.

When I had a "friend" watch my kids I would always send them with their own food and snacks too. I know damn sure that she wasn't teaching them anything during the day but letting free play happen (there is nothing wrong with that to a degree) but she tried to charge me $300 for 3 days a week. Promptly ended that relationship!

Yes, I agree. They are good people and I am here to help them. I was thinking about charging 200/week but I needed a second opinion. And plus.. it will be hard work on my part having 5 really young children to watch all day.

I may also be getting paid from the state... they are going to apply for it. Just wondering.. how much does the state pay you and how many kids are you watching?

I watch one. If I do 40 hrs a week It will be about 160 every other week. I think in MI they pay about $2 an hour.

I think you will be fine to do it for the $200. Your kids are pretty close to hers in age. I might try to do a little at a time and work into it. remember that it can get frusterating. I would set up the play area for the kids and work with them as if they were all your own on cleaning up, story time, park play and ect.....

The more you keep them occupied with play and stories the less work it becomes.

As a SAHM of 3 age 3 and under (3 yr old twins and a 13month old) I have a schedule and a menu for each day. It certainly makes the days less stressful. Ask the mom what type of schedule her kids are on and see if you can find a way to mesh them together.

Here in Texas... or at least in my county, in order for them to pay for child care you either have to be a relative or you have to be licensed....
