Why won't my cervix soften/dilate? On my third day of induct oohlala Heidi 1 child; Canandaigua, New York 219 posts

I am 40 weeks & two days. They decided to admit me and induce me Monday on my due date. First came cervidal, a paper like tampon inserted to help soften/rippen my cervix, that didn't work. The next day they started pitocin which seemed pointless since I'm not dilated. It put me in pain and led to nothing so they shut it off. This all seems kind of pointless, I didn't even go over my due date and they decided to induce me & it's not working! Clearly my body or my baby boy is not ready. Why can't they just let me go home and wait for this to naturally happen? I know I have the right to refuse what they propose to do but I only want to do what's right for the baby. Next step is cytotec/mipistorl(spelling?) a pill inserted to try & soften my cervix which doesn't seem necessary, why do I have to go into labor right now? They also discussed a balloon like insertion that forces the cervix to open and I do not think I will agree to that, at least not until it's a week from now and still no labor. I'm only two days over my due date & my baby is perfectly healthy. This doesn't seem right and I don't want to be a b*tch and give the poor nurses a hard time by refusing treatment but I don't see why I have to put all this stress on myself & the baby, forcing contractions with pitocin and unsuccessfully taking risky meds to soften my cervix, it's not working :( Help

My son was ten days late. I was supposed to be induced the day after he was born, but had to go in due to low amniotic fluid. It seems like they should give you a few more days to do it naturally.

Do NOT use cytotec!!!!
http://www.cytoteccase.com/
Its exetremely dangerous

And tell them to bug off, due dates can be up to 2wks off, at this rate you'll end up with a c section.
If you want to wait tell them no. Its YOUR body/baby and YOUR decision. NOT theirs

Just tell them to draw up discharge papers and let you go home so you can go into labor naturally....how bad would you feel if something bad happened because you didn't listen to your gut

I know that you can wait until your 42 weeks before any inducing... but yeah, I agree with you. If it's not working, stop. Use your pre-baby gut. Ask the doctors to tell you the good and bad of going home and waiting vs. staying and trying everything to induce. I know the more you do to induce, the more stuff you could need... iv etc... epideral etc... Walk walk walk walk walk... :) But yes, it's your choice to stay or go. Tell them how you feel. They are working for you...

I heard of a labor story where the pill that goes in the jay jay cytotec had to go in the women's mouth. She didn't like it too much but had no choice. I don't see how that pill does anything.

Listen to your body and your gut. Get the heck outta there! Unless they have a good reason (baby in distress, low fluid, etc.) tell them to leave you the heck alone!

This shit is seriously dangerous. If they try to force it on you, you need to run, fast.

I would have denied induction in the first place, I did til over 41 weeks with both kids... I had cytotec, and it worked like a charm, but i didnt know the facts or else i would NOT have agreed with it. I also had the "ballon thing" (which is a foley bulb) during my first pregnancy, which also worked, but again, I should have just told them to f**k off.

I would tell the nurses that you don't want to be rude to them since you know there only doing there job but that rufuse anymore intervention till you speak with your doctor . When you doctor arrives I would ask if he/she has any good reason as to induce you this early . If they don't have a very very good reason then tell them that you would like to be released and you will talk to him/ her about induction closer to 42 weeks . Simple as that and dont let them pressure you into everything else you have every right to refuse. Good luck.
