VICKS Humidifier & Infants? deleted crazy train, tx, Holy See (Vatican City State) 9655 posts

I have a humidifier... the one that you can put the Vicks VapoSteam stuff in. I was wondering if you would use it or have used it with your infant?

Emmalyn, 4.5 months (3 adjusted) is quite congested. I've gone to the doctor about it, but it's gotten worse. She's not running a fever that I've noticed, but the poor girl is wheezy and nothing is working. And there isn't anything I can give her, other than saline spraying her nose and s*****g mucus out or the baby chest rub. And I've been doing both religiously. She just needs more, at least till I can take her back to the doctor after the holiday.

I wouldn't use as much VapoSteam solution as I would for myself. Probably like 1 teaspoon for the whole humidifier, instead of the 2 tablespoons I normally use for myself.

Would you use it, or just use regular humidifier with no solution?

I wouldn't, but Vicks gives me a headache in general, so IDK. I know my DDs nose cleared up pretty well just running the humidifier, and sitting in the steamy bathroom!

That sucks. We're a Vicks loving family here! That stuff is amazing. :D

Before we had the twins, last winter my husband, my then 2 year old and myself all had a cold at the same time. We hooked the Vicks humidifier and all jumped in our big bed and ran it all night. We were all but cured by morning. :D

Maybe I'll just try the humidifier alone first. I haven't done it yet. We can't do steamy bathroom, it doesn't work the way our bathroom is. :(

since they make baby vics and it's safe to use. I'd say the vics humidifier/vaporizer is safe.

I had the same problem with my daughter but she was about 1ish when it happened. The humidifier didn't help at all so I took her to the dr and he found out she had pnuemonia due to asthma so we're not alloweed to use humidifiers anymore. It messes with the wheezing problems.

I've used the vicks vapouriser with my son since he was about 6 weeks old but have noticed that the vapouriser works just as well with only water in it and our Dr. told us that the steam was all that was needed anyway. but best of luck and I hope that your LO will get better quickly.

They only make chest rub for babies, I've been using it. It doesn't work.

Just to update: I tried the humidifier with vicks and it didn't work. :( I'm gonna give it another go tonight all night long and see if it helps.

Yeah, she doesn't have pneumonia. I've already been to the doctor. But thanks. :)
