I really don't know the difference and don't know if i have been feeling contractions while cramping? My dr said when you cramp they can be contractions but i can't really tell if their normal cramps or contractions?

your belly will get tight when you have a contraction...

My belly never got tight..

OP: My contractions felt like very strong period cramps in my lower belly (like down where you would have period cramps) until after my water broke, and the only reason I knew they were contractions is because I didn't have any cramping, or contractions my entire pregnancy up until that day. but, once my water broke they were really painful, frequent, and intense.

With mine I had a constant period like cramp that would get a little worse nd then my belly would get real tight and it felt like there was a knife fight going on in my vagina.

How do you know if you belly is getting tight (contraction) or if the baby is just pushing itself up. Because my belly keeps getting tight without any pain. I thought it was just her body pushed up to the surface.

Mine always felt like cramps because i had most of my labor in my back my tummy never got really tight either all you can do is wait it out and start timming them if they get worse and remember it never hurts to go get checked if you feel really bad...I had both of my boys at 37 weeks to the day and had back labor with both of them! good luck!

It could either be the baby pushing up, or a Braxton Hick contraction. Those are painless, but still make your belly tight.

Jeeze, I am so anxious just to feel a real contraction. I have felt Braxton Hicks, it felt as if my bladder was a punching bag and vaginal cramps.
I guess everyone is different.
But thanks for helping me guys!

From my experience if it was just my baby moving it only last a few seconds or feel like a rolling from one direction to the other or just a pushing against me and when is push back it'd go away.

But with my contractions it felt more like a pulling almost from the top/middle of my belly down to my lower belly/pubic area.

The other morning I felt the worse pain in the top of my belly and my lower back! My tummy tighting up, I wanted to cry it hurt so bad and the only thing that help was long deep breaths. It last about a hour but I wasn't bleeding and I kept feeling her move around during the sharp pains.
Contractions?

The only contractions I've had so far have been the strong cramp-like ones and some pain in my lower back.. no tightening at all that i've noticed. When they first started, I thought they were braxton hicks, but then my doc says I'm 2cm which tells me they are real ones. It just depends on how your body responds during labor I guess.
