Hi! I'm Rebecca. I'm expecting my wittle baby on June 12th. My finace' and I are really excited about it. His family isn't really the best and they kind of forgot about us and that is fine. It's my mom that upsets me. My brother's wife had two babies and she was really excited, then my twin sister Meghan (a huge fan of the site) had a baby and she was even more excited. It's now my turn now and she treats me like....ahem.....you know. She acts like I'm not even pregnant! She crabs about having to take me to doctors appointments, the store for food (that I pay for) and to drop my sister and niece off to my house on weekends. She and I got into it today and I confronted her about how she treats me and her future grandchild and my exact words were " You act like your not even going to love my baby." and she said, "Why should I?" I'm crying right now just thinking about it. She hurt me really bad. When i try to tell her she gets all sarcastic and tells me " Oh yeah, I'm soooo horrible." Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with this kind of thing? What am I supposed to do or say to let her know that she is hurting me without her getting all sarcastic. Thanks ladies. Your wisdom is appriciated.
Wow... I have no advice on how to deal with her... I wouldn't be very nice as it doesn't seem as though she's respecting you or being supportive.
Have you talked to your sister about this? Does she feel that your mom is doing the same thing? Maybe she has some knowledge as to why...
I would definitely talk to Meghan and see if she knows anything or how she would handle it. It might help.
I kind of dealt with this reaction with my in-laws. I made it simple for them, either they wanted to be in my child's life or not. If they didn't then good riddance, they didn't have to have a relationship with her and, quite frankly, my daughter is better off not having a relationship with them.
Now with that being said, I understand that your situation is FAR different. This is your actual mother, no in-law. If she just doesn't want to listen to you, I would just ignore her. Okay, I'm a bitch, but if I was in your situation, I'd tell my mother that if she wanted to act like a child and be sarcastic when I'm talking to her, I'll treat her like a child, mother or not. I'm a FIRM believer in giving respect to get respect, no matter what age you are. I did something like this with my mother once, actually..she changed QUICK. Have you tried giving her a taste of her own medicine?
Like I said, I'm a bitch so my advice probably isn't the best to follow, but I do hope that it gets resolved between your mother and yourself.
I would try and tell your mom how bad she hurts you. I am sorry that you are going thru this. It is so sad and not healthy for you or the baby :(. Oh and I LOVE your niece Kadence. She is one of the cutest little girls I ever seen.
