Help! Period like cramps! 37 Weeks! Bad Things 1 child; Blacksburg, SC, United States 18791 posts

I am 37 weeks along and I went to the doctors last Wednesday and the doctor ended up stripping my membranes. ((He did this without asking and didnt know it was a way to induce labor, so I am pretty disappointed in him)) Anyhow! I cramped VERY bad for about four hours after the fact and took some Tylenol and it eventually subsided. I have been fine since. However, about two hours ago I have been getting dull, period-like cramping in my lower abdomen...not really timeable and not like the tightening ball feeling that I experienced in the hospital when I was 36 weeks having contractions. ((Those stopped on their own after taking my cerclage out.)) I was wondering if these cramps could still be related to him stripping my membranes or if it is something I need wake my grandmother up down the road so she can take me to get checked out. They are not a "kill me now" kind of pain, just like "if I wasnt pregnant, I would think my period is coming" kind of pain. Should I take some Tylenol and try to go back to sleep or wake up my grandmother, call the SO, and head for Labor and Delivery? The baby is still moving around in there...and I was 60% effaced and almost 3cm on wednesday ((if that matters at all))

I'm 38 weeks and have been feeling the same period like cramps for the past few days, I brought it up to my doctor today and those cramps are absolutely normal. It just means your cervix is probably thinning out and dialting more.

yeah I agree, if they're really painful and you have regular contractions then obviously go get checked. But the dull cramps are normal

with my 1st baby i was on hospital bedrest from 30-35 weeks and it was HELL. i swore id never go back to the hospital again. but then came my 2nd child and with every little pain i was up in L&D, i bet they all knew my name by the time she was born lol. but this time im going to try my hardest to wait, even though i dont know what natural labor feels like. (i had 2 inductions). ive always heard that if you start feeling cramps in your back to go in too.

Sounds like early labor. And yes, stripping your membranes could very well be the cause.....or the fact that you are term and it could just be your time to deliver!

Good luck!

i cannot understand why at 37 weeks your doc needed to give you a sweep i just think things will progress in its own time and 3 cm means u should soon be on your way for the baby to come x

Thanks girls. I woke up and still had a bit of cramping but not as it was last night. I also wiped and ((TMI)) I had more of my mucus plug coming out so I am pretty sure it was just due to dilating more. As for the stripping of membranes goes, I am surprised on how bad that could be for me right now ((with infection and such)) and the fact that he didn't consider asking me first or at least telling me more about it was just wrong. Plus, it hurt like hell after the fact! Thank goodness for BG or I wouldnt know how bad it is to do that. When I seen it was to induce labor, I was in a bit of shock. Kind of makes it seem he wants to get me done with already, even if I JUST got to 37 weeks. I would think he would at least want me to go a bit further since it took so much to keep him in there for all this time. :/
