my little boy is 3 weeks today () but for the past 2 days he's been VERY cranky and pushing (like he's pooping) so hard that his face turns purple and he gets into colicky fits because he has such bad gas.

Do you eat a lot of dairy? It may be lactose intolerance.

chloe was like that when she was new born and i also breastfed and the dr said for us to start juice, well that didn't work like we wanted so he told use to try warm water and put just a little bit of brown sugar in the bottle. and that helped her so much. i hated to give her the bottle but she really latched back pretty good!

I'm having the same trouble with my little girl, she's just a little over two weeks old. She's quite cranky all the time now, and she's seems to be having tummy trouble. I took her to the doc and he thought it mightbe acid reflux, so she's on Zantac now. She hasn't had enough yet to know if it's working or not. She hasn't had any trouble pooping though. I have heard about the brown sugar and water. Also karo syrup and water.

My daughter had lots of problems with constipation and pain when she goes BM. Also lots of gas. I bring her to my chiropractor she has one more appt to go to. but he does manipulation on her that helps her funtions work much better. It takes about 3 appt hse has had 2 so far. What a difference in her. she poops everyday now and the pain with poops has gone away. It is like a totally different baby.

La Leche League is great for these kind of questions. http://www.llli.org
If he was bottle fed I woul search another site... also I would speak with your pediatrician,... some kids and adults are just more prone to gas, but others have irritable bowel syndrome. As a prior nursery level one nurse(healthy babies),.... if our babies were pooping OK and eating/feeding enough... we just administered mylicon and swaddled with the legs us to help them pass the gas easier. I hope the La Leche Site helps. I have heard of other more serious issues, but an MD can test some bloodwork if necessary and take some x-rays/CAT scans if he is worried, but usually good pooping is a good sign. The reflux thing will sometimes have a "sign" of spitting up/throwing up too often, but also can be "silent".

BTW- your little boy is so very cute in this pic of you two. I haven't seen any others (if you have them), but this one is quite adorable I must say.
