Contractions 5 minutes apart VaginaModel Due April 21 (boy); 50 kids; Tennessee 2209 posts

Ok so I have been having very sporadic contractions since yesterday. Today I noticed they were more frequent but still untimable. For the last hour they have been 4-5.45 minutes apart but still very tolerable. I know the general rule is 5-1-1 and these have followed that. I just am not in a lot of pain so I don't want to go in and waste the nurses time or my time just to get sent home. On the other side I had a very fast labor with my daughter so I don't want to wait to long. I guess my question is.. Should I wait for them to get so painful that I can't hardly speak or wait another hour and if they are still consistent but not to painful go in? TIA

The level of pain doesn't mean you aren't in active labor. I went in when mine got 4-5 minutes apart. They weren't painful, not even very uncomfortable, and I was just hitting 8cm when I got to the hospital 10 minutes from home. They give you those guidelines for a reason. I'd go in to be sure.

go in if they still stay consistent, (esp with having a fast labor in your history) Mine NEVER got closer then 5-7 mins apart (until like the last 20 minutes of my
labor. AND they werent even so i couldnt speak till the VERY end)...i'd call, wait a bit and go in!

My contractions werent painful until two hours before my Dd was born. They were just a bit incomfortable. Also I never timed them they came when they came :) Good luck!

I would maybe consider going in if you had a fast labor with your other child. I don't have any pain with early contractions. With my son I went in the night before my scheduled c-section cause I *thought* I might be in labor (contractions were about every 8 minutes but totally bearable). Turns out I was 6cm dilated. In the 30 minutes it took them to prep me I was doubled over in pain from the contractions. Moral of the story...labor can speed up very quickly. lol Good luck to ya.

Ah this makes me nervous. As these last few weeks have been I was just fine with waiting. Im going to continue to time for another 45ish minutes and if they keep coming I will go in. Thank you for the answers ladies!
