Sinus Congestion- can't take ANY medicine :(( Megan Renee [17 weeks] Due May 3; 16 kids; Claremore, Oklahoma 233 posts

So, ladies- I have this horrible sinus infection (or what I think it is). I had a fever & didn't take anything for it- it eventually ran it's course in about an hour. It wasn't a high fever. My heart is pounding- ears hurt & head is full of pressure- really sucks. Worse- is I want to sleep but my nose is so stuffy I can't sleep & I have asthma- so it's just worse.

My boyfriend bought me this: http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/walgreens-cold/flu-relief-liquid-caps/ID=prod6012517-product

My doctor said for sinuses I can take anything that contains Tylenol. So- I figured this would be okay but the pharmacist at Walgreens says their cold & flu relief liquid gels contain some kind of ingredient that gives you almost a "high" when you take it- so he won't recommend it. He just recommended Tylenol & Claritin- which I cannot afford at the moment- as my payday just hit. And, it won't relieve my immediate symptoms.

What did you guys do while you are pregnant to relieve this crud? lol

Don't take that. It contains Dextromethorphan (a cough suppressant) which is a no-no during pregnancy. Your best bet is to drink plenty of fluids. Do you have a humidifier?

ETA: You can buy the generic Tylenol (acetaminophen) for $2 at Walmart. Same medicine, only much cheaper!

I think its best to take care of yourself in order to take care of the baby. If you can't breath well then neither can the baby.

That was the worst. I had one for a while while I was pregnant too. I used the netti pot (sp?) and put warm cloths on my face. Eventually, it went away, but it took much longer than usual. Good luck!

You can also use Benadryl! It's perfectly safe to take while your pregnant.

I did and still do two things..... First I mix apple cider vinegar and water...equal parts and warm it up till real good and steamy. Inhale the steam. It will clear them sinus's out.

Second I do a nasal irrigation

1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp of pickling salt
1 cup of warm water

you can use a syringe without the needle and squirt it up your nose and it should come out your mouth. This will flush the sinus cavity. within 10 mins you'll be blowing your nose like crazy and then you will feel relief.

I work almost 37 hours a week- which is alot especially considering I'm a cashier so I"m constantly handling money, or taking out trash or picking up crud off the parking lot (it's a gas station) not to mention I'm ALWAYS on my FEET.. ALL day for my 8 hours- so I'm worn out- so with being pregnant & being worn out/stressed my immune system like gave up lol

So, now I'm tired but I've just been relaxing I think I will try the hot cloths. I'm just hoping this isn't the flu. I haven't got any nausea, diarreah, aches or pains or muscle pain. Just a fever, some sinus issues, and my eyes feel heavy. I'm not too hungry either. I had 3 bloody noses between yesterday & today. I'm miserable :(

Thanks Ladies! I need something to help me sleep- so going to try the suggestions!

YES. The neti pot & warm washcloths on your face really help. And a humidifier was helpful as well. If you're feeling pain/pressure regular Tylenol (or generic acetaminophen) should help.
