My 5 year old niece wants one for Christmas so I have been looking around. Here is my question:

Why are some of these dang dolls $150!? Quite a few I have looked at were like $25 but then I saw a few that were $60+...all the way up to $150.

Is there something special about these more expensive dolls? They all were the same size, the ones I looked at. Maybe they are collectible? Anyone know the scoop on these dolls? TIA

All the ones I've seen at Target are like no more than $25.

This! My daughter has 2. 1 from Target and 1 from Wal-Mart. They were like $25 each or something around there. Then the outfits are like $8.

Where are you looking?! My kids have so many and the single dolls without the "silly hair" are 25 at Toys R Us and like a dollar cheaper at Walmart and Target.

They have double packs for like 44.

Where are you looking? Perhaps they retire the older ones and they go up in value? Think: beanie babies in the 90's.

I think they are expensive because people collect them. I have a friend on facebook who will search all over online and in cities around her to get a certain one of those dolls for her daughter, and she'll pay a lot for them too. I'm guessing they aren't all sold in stores or something like that. Seems crazy to me though.

They DO retire old ones when the new ones come out.

That would be my guess. My American Girl doll is worth like double what was originally paid cause she's retired.

Well, I did see them at Target, and they were darn cute, BUT, I was looking on Amazon for outfits (multi-packs) and these really expensive dolls started coming up. Are they collectible and maybe the discontinued ones are more expensive? I just wanna get her one she'll really love and I COULD afford to pay more if I knew it was "worth it". KWIM?

I personally would NOT pay for an outrageously priced one because they have so many that are cheaper that my kids DON'T have yet.

That and if they're not in their box (ie. the kid plays with it) it will lose a good amount of value anyway

They have bed sets now and I was considering getting one. They have a whole top plastic drawer full of the small ones and their accessories.
