I had my appt today and they said my urine looked like I had a bladder infection!! I have been having no symptoms at all. Heres my dilemma, the ONLY antibiotic I can take is Macrobid!! Im allergic to sulfa, and levaquin. And my body is resistant to the other ones for UTI!! I am almost 37 weeks and you are not suppose to take macrobid after 36 weeks. We are waiting for the cultures to come back first, but if it comes back that I do have one my OB said he is prescribing the Macrobid. Im really scared and do NOT want to take it because of the risks I have read about. I just dont know what to do though!! So what would you mamas do, or have any of you taken it after 36 weeks???
TIA mamas

I would tell the doctor/nurse your concerns and ask if there is any other option...

Is doxycycline on your list of no? Coz that's what they gave me with my UTI when I was pregnant with my DS.

Don't take it if you're after 36weeks.

This is literally the ONLY antibiotic I can take for UTI, bladder or Kidney infection!! I have a resistance its like MRSA but not actually MRSA, I forget the name of it. Basically Macrobid is the only thing that will get rid of it!!

you should never take doxy while pregnant, especially in the last tri, it causes teeth discoloration and other bone issues in the fetus.

i think macrobid would be a safer choice

I work in Pharmacy and did a little digging for you. Macrobid is a catagory B drug for pregnant women which means that in studies there is a unlikely chance of it hurting your baby. Being pregnant myself "IF" you do have a UTI I would talk to my Dr about my concerns but I would probably take it. Cranberry juice can help prevent UTI's but it won't cure it. Hope this is helpful! Also as far as you not being able to take it after 37 weeks I didn't find anything that says that... Best of Luck :)

It may very well say that but I didn't find anything. Difinately talk to your Dr though...For me I hate taking any meds while pregnant and only take what I have to...I'll do so more research and See what I find... I'll keep you posted.

Maybe you'll get lucky and you won't have a UTI... They thought I had one a few months ago but it turned out to be negative.

As a nurse and mom i wouldnt take it. As long at your not having any urinary symptoms and the infection isnt bothering you i would hold off. Or if there is anything else on the culture that shows will work that you can take, even injection antibiotics.
