Are there certain conditions (i.e. baby low, baby breech, etc.) that make it more likely for your water to break?

Or is it just f**king completely random and individual like everything else in labor? :D

Baby being low can help, a bulging bag of water poking out your dilated cervix can increase the chances of it happening but it's still pretty random. I know people who didn't have it break until 9cm and some who deliver intact. the odds are about 15-20% for it breaking on its own

I always wondered this also. I always say to SO I wish my water would just break when it's time for me to deliver so I know for sure it's time for me to go to the hospital lol.

LMAO ~ I was JUST googling this last night !! It would be so much easier if it happened than trying to read our body "signals" (if that's what you that bullshit).

I wasn't uncomfortable at all at the end of pregnancy so I assume he wasn't very low, I also wasn't dilated or effaced at all when my water broke. I didnt loose my mucus plug or have my bloody show prior to my water breaking either.

I think if baby is low that has something to do with it. With my first two they were both low and my first was engaged for 10 wks, my water ruptured at 29 wks, resealed then ruptured again at 39 wks all on it's own. With my second it ruptured at 38 wks on it's own. My third was higher and wouldn't decend due to a really short cord and even though when I went in to the hospital I was 6 cm and water bulging, my water didn't break till after I was 10 cm and the nurse did a "rough check" and then it broke. So at least in my case the decension of the baby seems to have something to do with when it breaks

Okay thanks. I'm just wishing mine would break for some kind of true indication since my body is crazy. Baby's been engaged since forever, and keeps dropping. I think last was only a -3 station though...but it feels even lower so I was just hoping.
