Last 3 weeks of pregnancy? Momma.Monkey Due February 17; 1 child; Florida 1300 posts

This is probably stupid to ask, but a friend of mine is 33 weeks, and she's already looking up ways to induce labor. I told her nothing will induce labor if her body isn't ready, and that she should just wait it out. And she's like, "Well, 37 weeks is full term. My doctor said all the baby does is breathe and gain weight for the last 3 weeks." So my question is, don't babies still do some fine-tune developing for those last 3 weeks? I thought they did...:?:

yes their tiny brains are still developing in the last three weeks. It's best to keep em in till they are ready to come out unless medically necessary.

Alright, that's what I thought! At least I know I'm right, even if she won't admit it. I don't understand wanting your baby to come out early. Pregnancy is 40 weeks for a reason.

Well first off I believe babies only practice breathing in womb, not real breathing. 37 weeks is Term, not Full Term. 40 weeks is Full Term. Also those last weeks are critical for lung development.

It makes me sad to read posts about self inducing. I'm trying like all get out to keep mine inside as long as possible. Preterm labor is no joke. I find myself counting up to 39 weeks instead of counting down. Whenever I make it another week I'm whew! I made it to 34 weeks lets see if I can make it to 35!!!

I have a scheduled C section at 39 weeks. I'm trying like hell to stay pregnant till then. I'm going to miss this when it's over.

This is what I've heard from a lot of women who have had medical problems during their pregnancies! And nearly every mom of a preemie on this site has wished they could make it to full term. I don't understand wanting your baby to be small and not fully developed..

I guess I get it... I mean it's uncomfortable. Being anxious doesn't help either. I remember with my boys being that way. I just couldn't wait to pop em out. I took my pregnancy's for granted. It wasn't until this pregnancy did I really appreciate the ups and downs of being pregnant. She's my last baby. This is the only pregnancy I had preterm labor with too. It's quite crazy to see how much I've changed as far as my views on inducing labor. If you would have asked me 8 years ago I would have been saying the same thing as your friend. But when you start having issues your mind changes very quickly. I hope your friend will come to her senses and enjoy these last moments of her pregnancy.

Your friend is dumb sorry but yeah the baby is still having major changes right now . And when its 37 weeks is when the baby is ready and will be perfectly fine if born then . Some have them 37 or all the way till 42 :o weeks

The earlier the baby is born, the harder feeding can be - both for baby and mum. My nephew was 3 weeks early and he just didn't feed well at all, and would only drink from a tube or a bottle. It was terrible for my sister-in-law. You're right, Kayla, pregnancies are 40 weeks for a reason. Hope she can figure that out. :)

You also got to consider due dates can be off so shes 33 wks but in reality she could be 35 wks. IS it something id risk no. Im being induced. And i know plenty of women who had there child(not induced) as early as 34 weeks and had no problems not even a longer hospital stay but then again ive heard of women who had there baby at 42 wks and they had to stay in the hospital becuase of lung problems
