I'm sure its different for every woman but I took it at 38 weeks and went into labor the next day. I didn't have the poops...just woke up the next day with contractions. I also walked a lot! !! Had sex with my husband so I can't really say it was just the castor oil. My baby came out perfect, and he didn't poo in there. lol. But as I said, its probably different for every woman.

You are the first I've heard out of quite a few that has ever had a positive experience. You were extremely lucky.

I've been told by a lot of people that it's not good to do. I'd personally stick to eating spicy food or sex.. :D

It's a laxative. If you didn't shit, it failed, and the labor you went into was totally unrelated. It's the contractions caused by the shitting that can stimulate labor.

I tried it with my daughter and it made me feel like I had the flu and she stayed in for another 2 weeks. I wouldn't recommend it.

I had taken castor oil when i was 5 days over due
And my baby girl almost died cause the castor oil made her heart beat steady when the babys heart beat should be peaking And on the bottle it says don't use in pregnancy( thats what my bottle of castor oil said) But i was stupid and almost paid the price of taking the castor oil

As I said, I can't say it was the castor oil because I walked a lot! I went to wal mart and walked for several hours then went home, took the castor oil and had sex with my husband. So it could of been the sex or walking.

I also didn't take very much of the castor oil. A small spoon full and the taste was horrible. I'm not sure how much most people take but a spoon full was enough for that awful taste.

Ok, So I Used Castor Oil With My 2nd Child, Bear In Mind I was 40w + 4 days, It Sent Me Into Labor Within 24 hours, Luckily it cleaned all my system out before i was at the pushing stage, i had a beautiful 7lb 4oz boy, Castor does not pass through to the baby, and will not cause a bowel movement in the baby, castor oil is not a nutrient and is not absorbed into the body, it simply coats the intestines and bowels, i'm currently 37w+2 d with my 3rd and belive me i will be doing this again if i go overdue, i totally get your fed up, dont try this until at least 39weeks or better still until your due date has come & gone, Good Luck =) By The Way I Live In The UK and You Cannot Buy castor oil from chemists or shops anymore due to the mis-use of it inducing labor x

Well, castor oil used to be used even just like ten years back. the only reason they recommend not using it is some doctors believe that pitocin and just being plain ready is better. HOWEVER there are still OB's and midwives that recommend using castor oil. I have looked at side affects and results and I have found that if you have been having contractions already like early labor that castor oil will prolly work but if your body hasnt even started getting ready then its not ready and the castor oil will just make you live in the bathroom.
