I've seen a few moms here say this in regards to imagining life without their children. How do you feel about this statement? Are the women who feel that way better mothers than women who can picture their lives child-free?

Personally I understand the thinking behind it, but to say that your kids are the whole purpose of your life...?

ETA: I mean imagining your life as if you'd never had kids, not if something happened to them. I don't even want to think that way myself.

If something horrible happened, I would be lost. But I would hope that I could peick up the pieces and serve my purpose to other children. Like volunteering, charity work, etc.

My kids ARE my life, if anything ever happened to them I'm like 90% sure I'd kill myself.

I love my kids more than anything but I would have many other things I could do with my life if (god forbid) something happened to both of them.

Oh no I didn't mean if you lost your child...I can't even think that way. I just mean imagining if you'd never had any kids to begin with. But I know what you mean...

I have a lot more than just my kids going on-I built an entire life before they were even a thought.

Ohh. Well, if I didn't have kids I would either be dead from an OD or a highly successful laboratory scientist. It could go either way.

Seeing as my whole life has revolved around taking care of them 24/7 since day 1, I can't even imagine what my life would be like without them.

If I had never had kids, I would want kids. I'm just one of those people that was born to have kids. I can't imagine my life any other way.

My kids are a big part of my life..however my husband is also a HUGE part of my life..being a wife and mother are the big part of who I am..but not all of who I am. I however do feel that my purpose in life is to be their mother and his wife. I wouldnt want to go through life without them.

I had never had kids, so I can definetily do fine without them ;) Even when I do have my son, who I already love very much and is ANOTHER reason to live for, my life would still have purpose. You should never based your happiness on someone else. Not even your children, sooner or later they are going to leave the nest.

If you do, then you're going to come on here at age 55 and make a thread about trying for another child because you're suffering from "empty nest syndrome" or whatever it's called. :)
