You're not supposed to give a kid under 6 cough meds. You can mix up some water, honey, and lemon and it'll help.

It's not labeled for under 6 but with a doctor's approval, you can do half a dose, 5mL

warm apple juice helps. It thins secretions and helps soothe the throat.

Coughing is a way to clear the airway. If you suppress a cough... you increase the risk of suffocation. That's why they don't recommend cough syrup anymore.

So no dimetapp at all? Thats ridiculous.. I'm not trying to drug him. I dont get that law.

And i did try benadryl. All that happened was he was sleepy and cranky because he couldnt sleep well with the cough.

I guess that's pedatrician dependant - our pedi says do not give it, period - it was her that told me about the honey & lemon

Do you not realize that a cough suppressant IS benadryl??

No it's not...Benedryl is an anti-histamine, not a cough suppressant.
