can't go to the funeral queso +2 (40!!!) 2 kids; Montana 9467 posts

My grandma passed away on sunday. December fourth. The funeral is on friday. My cousin called me up and said she wanted to use her miles to get myself and my family up there for the funeral. I was thrilled. I know Grandma wouldn't be there but I need the closure. I NEED it. I need to sit around with family I haven't seen in years and tell stories and hear new stories.
So I called my boss and told him so I would't have to work on saturday.... planned to go on thursday and come back on sunday. Was so happy to bring my little boy and have my mom get to see him again. Now it looks like we can't go  The miles she has only go for a certain airline. Which that airline doesn't go through my local airport. If that makes any sense. She was going to buy my ticket but realized that my son would need his own ticket too and they're 600 bucks a piece. Too much. I would never ask her to even give us 600$ much less 1200!!!!!!!! I was only accepting it because I thought it was going to be free to her!!! So now, I can't go. And it makes me grandma's death even harder than it was. I never expected to be able to go in the first place. We don't have the money to buy tickets. But when she opened that door... I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up. It seemed like such a sure thing.

God I miss you Grandma. I wish I could call you and cry like I used to. And you would say "don't cry, it hurts me to hear you cry" I miss her so much

I'm very sorry for your loss! I thought when you have a death in the family the airlines will give you at least some kind of break on tickets. Maybe you could call them and ask?

This made me cry! I had a hard time when I couldnt get to my grandpas funeral. And then after he passed, I watched my grandma go downhill until she passed (thank goodness, she was in such poor shape.) I made sure I made it down to Arkansas for hers, where I was able to visit my grandpas grave and sit, and get some closure. Happy they are together again. <3

we called. They said that they are more flexible with times. They do not help with the cost. Nothing cheaper. They're just out for money no matter what.

It seems that everyone is just out to make a buck. I have somewhat lost hope in most of humanity :( I am so very sorry they aren't willing to help you.
