Have you ever had a baby sitting on your nerve? Shanrock 1 child; 1 angel baby; Derry, NH, United States 1259 posts

So today I posted earlier about this pain I've been experiencing since last night around 9. Well today I called my doctor, he had me come in to do a urine test to rule out a UTI (They haven't called yet with the results), but when I posted about the pain earlier, a few women suggested that it could simply be the baby laying on a nerve and until he/she moves I'll feel this pain. I'm 16 weeks, so I'm just curious. If' you've been pregnant with your baby laying on your nerve, what is the pain like? At first I thought it was just gas, but this is definitely not gas pain!

It more then likely isn't the baby sitting on the nerve, but your pelvis. Sciatic nerve pain and pelvis pain are actually very similar feeling. I had sciatica with my son due to pinching the nerve before pregnancy, and I have pelvic pain this time around which causes tingling, pain, etc, through your lower back and down your leg.

Very very annoying sharp, butt pain!

I have sciatica from my baby and it is in my lower pelvic region and my left leg. It feels like sharp pain when I try to walk or move my left leg very high. I've been having trouble putting my pants and climbing the stairs to my condo. I'm much farther along in my pregnancy though (36 weeks) and I have a pretty big baby laying on my sciatic nerve so it is probably worse for me. I was told wearing a belly band to help support the weight of the baby, sleeping with a pregnancy pillow wedge under my belly and even going to a chiropractor to have the baby repositioned are my best treatment options. Oh and swimming is a nice relief since you're buoyant in the water.

I know its not sciatic... that I did rule out. However, there are plenty of nerves around your hips and back that the baby could lean on right? My pain starts behind my right hip in my overy area it feels like, and goes all the way around to my tail bone. If I sit too long, I have a very hard time standing... as I'll get up and look like the hunchback of notre dame. It takes me a few minutes to stand full upright. I can go down stairs easily but going up them hurts. The only time I'm full comfortable is when I'm laying down and if I try to get up after that it takes almost 5 minutes.... its awful:( The major thing is that when I put my socks and shoes on I have to lift my right left with my hands while sitting, and swing it over my left to accomplish my mission... I can't bend over to do it.

A lot of your symptoms are what I'm going though... but I can actually lift my leg without having pain in my leg, the pain I get from lifting it is up near my hip and my lower back. No butt pain or anything like that. It's weird.

Where is your pain? My last pregnancy the baby was sittin weird and pinching a nerve that ran down the front of my left leg. It hurt too! sharp shooting pain all the way to my knee. It got so bad towards the end that I almost fell a few times because my leg would completely falter and pregnant women ain't the most graceful creatures. Lol

Lol it's all in my right side. Lower half... I'm shaped like an hourglass and it starts from right where I curve out again towards the bottom and goes about 4 or 5 inches downwards (I'm almost 5'10). It goes around me, towards my tailbone and then stops. Left side is fine and my bum doesn't feel sore or anything like that. The leg issues are due to the pain in my upper body. I have a short torso and long legs, so bending over far enough to do anything is hell:(

Yeah... it's more then likely not a nerve, then.

I don't know dear but I hope you get it solved before you get in the last trimester. Everything you described about sitting and shoes sounds just like what I went through the last two weeks. I shudder to think how much you're gonna be hating life at the very end. Lol. Best of luck!

Okay I recently had a seizure and I'm 24 weeks pregnant. After I came out of the seizure and after sleeping for awhile I started to notice this pain from my left hip down through my leg into my foot. I can't stand for too long or it starts to hurt really bad. I went into my Ob and he said that he wasn't sure about it so he sent me to a specialist and the specialist.thinks that it might be my baby sitting on my sciatic nerve. And so the next morning I went into a regular doctors office to see what they thought. And he thinks I broke a bone in my back while seizing. Now I don't know the difference or what to do because they both put me on loratabs and muscle relaxers. I can't seem to go very long with out them because the pain is unbearable. In the morning I can't even sit up it hurts so bad. So some advice would be greatly appreciated so that I know what kind of questions to ask when I see them on Tuesday.
