How should we spell it? Lindsay Green Due May 3 (boy); Florida 7 posts

We are naming our daughter Makiah. It will be pronounced with a "long i" sound: Ma-ki-a. Since we've told friends the baby's name, I've heard all kinds of things like, "Is it Makeya? Is it Micah? How do you say it?" I didn't really know this spelling that we've chosen would be even somewhat tricky. Should we change the spelling? I don't want her to have to tell people the correct way to pronounce her name for her entire life. Other thoughts on spelling:
Makaiah
Micaiah
Any thoughts?

Quoting stratum corneum:" Makaya. ETA: Or Makya."

:!: to Makaya

OP, I think there will definitely be confusion with your first spelling. It seems like this one is the least likely to cause any confusion.

I love the name & the spelling but I also like it spelled Makaiah & Makyiah.
My name is Chara (Chair-uh) & no matter how many times I tell some people how to say it they still cant say it right. I use to get aggervated by it but now I'm so use to it I just dont even correct people half the time anymore. LOL I love unique names though. Good luck!

Makaya....or you could just name her Kaya or use that for short. Sounds too much like Mikaila and names like that that have been overused (in my opnion) in the past year or 2 but that's up to you. Good luck!

Yeah, I can't even sound it out. And these other ladies spellings ought to be better, But I still have no clue. How do you say it??

Makaya would sound like Makayla (just without the L) and that's not really what we're going for. Makiah has no A sound in it. Just not sure what to do.

This is the spelling I was thinking of for my DD this Feb
. We're going for "K" or "C" and I really love the name "Kaiya".

Unfortunately, I don't think people would pronounce this like Maya. That's what we're hoping for though. I do tend to like the Makaiya. I for some reason and hesitant of adding a Y.

Makaiah

Not everyone will be able to pronounce it though. I get so many people butchering my name and spelling-Adrienne.
