I want to get a cancer ribbon tattoo for my dad. (need advic Queen2Three 3 kids; Greenfield, California 1233 posts

My dad just had surgery on thursday to remove a tumor out of his colon. He was diagnosed with colon cancer in August. The doctors said he has a good chance that it will not return. These past couple of months have been tough on my family. I am used to my dad being the strongest person I know and seeing him go through that just broke my heart. I want to get a ribbon for him on my shoulder with his name on it. Is that weird? I usually only see them on survivors or people who lost people due to cancer. Is it bad that I want one even though my dad is going to survive?
TIA
(edited because I have no clue why I put TMI lol)

I don't think so, I think that's a sweet idea.

ribbons are for awareness so i think its a great idea. you love someone who has/had it... i think it would be weird if you just liked the colour or something

I am a cancer survivor and so are my family member. My grandpa had colon cancer and is in remission now. I have a cancer tattoo for myself (a large butterfly on my foot) I wanna go and get smaller ones of all the cancers my family memebers have had around my big one. All my family has survived their cancers. I say DO IT :)

Thanks ladies. I am going to start looking at designs and get it before he gets out of the hospital so I can surprise him.

One more question. Should I get his name or have it say "DAD"?
I'm not sure what will look better. My son is named after my dad and I have my son's name on my back.

Im getting one for my sons battle. I think its a great idea you get one, just take your time and wait for the right inspiration for your ribbon.
