Quoting ma ♥:" Why do you have to do any drug, illegal or not? Why not just suck it up & deal with it?"

Because sometimes, sometimes, the benefits outweigh the risks. There's no s*****g up and dealing with HG. I have often wondered if it was the cause or contributed to my miscarriage.

Vaporize or eat it. Smoke of any kind is harmful to both your body and your baby's. I vaporized while pregnant when my morning sickness was really bad. I got drug tested and failed, but my Dr said that I wasn't the first or last pregnant woman who would walk into his office and fail for marijuana. He told me that because I failed it would be on my medical history, meaning that the hospital could see when I went to deliver my daughter, so I needed to quit by 20 weeks. At 20 weeks the meconium starts forming in the baby's bowels and THC can be stored there. They'll do a drug test from the first stool after you deliver if you have failed a drug test during your pregnancy. If you have quit smoking by 20 weeks you'll pass that drug test and the state will not look any further into it. If you fail then I think a social worker will be involved, but I'm not sure.. I have heard that they never take your baby away based off a failed drug test for marijuana. You'd have to be doing other drugs, have a bad living condition, or just be completely neglecting your kid for them to take 'em away for a failed (marijuana-related) drug test.

Oh and I don't think it's routine for them to drug test you.

I find this topic extremely interesting!! There are so many dos and dont while pregnant yet I bet every single one of us breaks at least one rule!! Think about it....In the end it is our job to do the best to insure our baby's health. Not all things are controllable, people will use drugs (hard or minor) and end up with healthy babies or there are those out there that do everything to the book and end up with a baby with tons of problems. I have heard of many doctors say that it is ok to take pills while pregnant and it is completely safe but when you do the research it takes millions of cases and studies to actually figure out that theyre not safe. Smokers are told to cut down before quitting due to the causes of stress of a fetus. Meth/horinon (sp?) addicts are given prescription drugs that feed their addictions because of the stress of withdrawls. Is any of this REALLY ok???

With my first child I was EXTREMELY ill ALL the time THE WHOLE PREGNANCY!! I lost tons of weight, was hospitalized, and couldnt eat anything but Jello....is that good for a fetus?? I finally broke down and had a onie and kept down my first meal and finally started to gain weight! Am I saying this is ok? No. I asked my doctor about it because I truly wanted to do everything possible to have a healthy child and felt bad about it and he said that although he woulnt say it is ok, studies have shown that the only side effects of smoking pot while pregnant is your baby eats and sleeps more often!!

I am now 21 weeks along with my second child and havent had any issues with this one so I havent smoked but I am having a harder time quiting cigerettes this time. 4 a day and I still feel extremely horrible! OMGOSH Im horrible right?? lol Like I said in the beginning we all have our options and in the end I believe that its up to you!! Do your research and be informed!!

I know what feeling you're talking about and totally understand why you wouldn't like it.

I have that thing..I've forgotten what the actual terminology of it is because I've self-diagnosed myself...but it's where you can lay in bed forever at night, completely tired but unable to fall asleep for hours. That's why I choose to smoke marijuana before bed (I make sure the little one is already asleep, make sure my SO has come home from work and stays in the room with the baby while I go outside). I would never sleep without it. I fully believe in the wellness power of marijuana and don't necessarily advocate the abuse of it (just smoking to get high).

Is it safe to smoke marijuana during pregnancy?

Gerald Briggs
pharmacist clinical specialist
No. Smoking marijuana during pregnancy may affect your baby's growth and the development of his nervous system. Studies have shown that children who were exposed to marijuana during pregnancy sometimes have problems focusing their attention and solving problems.

Children of heavy pot users may also have problems with short-term memory, concentration, and judgment. (There's no evidence so far, however, that marijuana use during pregnancy causes attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).

One study even found that young children whose mothers smoked marijuana during pregnancy had a higher risk of leukemia than those whose mothers did not.

What's more, there's no way to know if the pot you're smoking has been laced with other drugs (such as PCP) or contaminated with pesticides, which would put your baby at even higher risk. And using marijuana increases the chance that your baby will have birth defects if you're also drinking alcohol or smoking tobacco.

If you smoked pot before you realized you were pregnant, don't panic. The chance that your baby has been affected is very small. Still, it's important to be honest with your practitioner about your previous use of pot and other recreational drugs. She may want to run some extra tests to be sure your baby is developing normally.

AND EVEN HERE

http://www.marijuana.com/surveys-polls-questions/157106-smoking-while-pregnant.html

On a Marijuana board other users are telling a chick she is stupid for even thinking about smoking pot while pregnanct because you should be doing NOTHING that could negatively affect your baby just because it makes you feel better. You might as well give your child up for adoption because obviously your drugs come before the health of your innocent defenseless child. Your baby can't say "yeah mom I want you to smoke some pot" It doesn't make it's own choices you are supposed to make those for you. Imagine the court cusotdy hearing.... "But your honor.... It was just to make me feel better. That's why I was smoking ILLEGAL drugs while pregnant"

At the end of the day it's an ILLEGAL drug and just for this post being on here in a public place you can be arrested and charged. Make your child's health a priority not your drug habits!

I'm glad that are a few people who actually know what they are talking about responding to this. I would never take something like ambian or any other sleeping aid while pregnant that is ridiculous. I plan on stopping close to my labor so hopefully that wont be a problem. Thanks for you input about the apts since that was my question that no one else seemed to actually reply to.
