Almost 2 and still has mushy poop Kari + Isaac & Rose Due February 15; 2 kids; Honolulu, Hawaii 10366 posts

I was wondering how normal this is. My son will be 2 in February and his poops are still not formed (unless he's constipated). But usually 2-3times a day he poops (after meals usually) and they are always mushy and it has always been like this.. so it's not that just started up due to medications or illness, it's always been like this.

He eats a variety of fruits and veggies (bananas, apples, blueberries, peaches, peas, corn, carrots, etc), is active, gaining weight, and doesnt seem to be in any discomfort...he just has mushy poops (sometimes really runny too).

Is this normal? I'm going to bring it up to his pediatrician for his 2yr check up, but wanted to get a feel from other moms as well.

Are you changing his diaper before he has a chance to sit on his poop?

Yup, we change him right after he poops. Plus, he's always running around so its not him sitting on it lol

My daughter is the same - she will be 2 Jan 28th and she usually only has one bowel movement a day, but it is still soft and not very formed either. She is also a very good eater and likes just about everything.

I read somewhere that is harder to potty train them to poop unless they have formed poops.. but who knows lol

and ya, isaac doesnt show much interest either. I have a potty for him, but plays with it and likes to stand in it lol if i sit him on it, he gets up within 10 seconds and has a fit if i sit him back down. im not gonna push him since that will just backfire

josh does the same thing! he would sit on it then pop back up right away and clap! now we're too the point where he'll sit on it and we'll clap while he's actually sitting on the potty, but he has no idea why he's there or what its for. all in due time.
