Low Blood platelets, how will this effect my c-section? ♛ Callins' Mom 2 kids; Georgia 102 posts

Gonna try reposting this one more time..I did't receive ANY replies the first time...
I received a call from my doctors office that my blood platelets were slightly low and that I wouldn't be able to get an epidural if needed. My blood was 139, and they like for it to be 140 and up per the nurse. The nurse was not willing to give me any more info, she stated "You'll just have to wait until your appt to ask your doctor more questions"...My appt is not until Jan 16, and I thought that her delivery and explanation sucked. I am scheduled for a c-section so I am more than likely going to need a epidural...I am just wondering if this has happened to any of your ladies, whats your exp? I am of course very worried, as I just want everything to go fine...So annoyed with that nurse, I did call back and leave her a message, letting her know that she wasn't of any help, and her phone call was distressing.. Thanks for any advice. I am 26 weeks pregnant btw

I don't see how they can determine that this early?? First, your platelet count could go up before then.. you have a while. If you are having a C/S.. then you will have an epidural or spinal so her comment makes no sense. Never mind that they can give you platelets if they need.

They might be concerned that you will have clotting problems. Low platelet count can impact your ability to stop bleeding. But you're having a c-section so don't worry about it

I have a bleeding disorder where basically, my blood platelets don't work.
My doctor told me I would be able to get an epi just fine my whole pregnancy. So I'm in labor, waiting for my epi and the doctor asks if I have blood issues, I tell him and 2 different anesthesiologists refused to give me one. The hospital said I can either give birth drug free or have a c/s with general anesthesia (being put under) and I went with the c/s. Honestly, it was a terrible experience, I would NEVER do it again.

Thanks..she didnt elaborate on my options for c section...my first c/s i had an epi , so I was thinkin what are my options now if that were the case..<shrug> idk i guess Ill just have to wait until the time comes..but its so frustrating for someone to call you constantly in panic mode, and once they finally get you on the phone, they have no clear answers...thanks for your reply.

No. I don't remember anything about DD's first few days of life. I didn't wake up until she was like 6 hours old, I fell asleep feeding her, feeding myself...talking. It was bad. I had tons of post surgical complications from the anesthesia too. I was hospitalized for 10 days and DD could only stay for 4 of them.

Hi I'm having the same issue at the moment but my level is 93, I've have been told until it reaches 80 it isnt a problem Im due the 20th Jan and they are not going to make decision on what to do til the 16th, I'm expecting a platelet/blood transfusion this week to increase levels so can open up options of pain relief.. doctors in the uk dont treat it as serious until levels reach 100, you still have plenty of time before its classed as urgent x GOOD LUCK xx
