SSI / disability payments..need help!! Mommy of 2 + 1 angel 2 kids; 1 angel baby; Pearl, Mississippi 19327 posts

Okay, my daughter was just approved for SSI benefits because of her disability. The money is being put in my name and I tried to get direct deposit on my joint account with my husband but they told me that I have to open a separate account with my name and saying it's for her. ex: Amanda_________ for Chloe ________. If that makes any sense. Now my husband is throwing a huge fit because his name won't be on the account. Will they allow his name to be put on the account? Also, he is saying that he read up and if you have that type of account it is called a dedicated account and you can't just spend it on anything she needs. He said it can't go toward co-pays or medicine or buying her school books for the speech school she going to be going to. He told me it couldn't pay for her medical bills...what the heck does it pay for then? I am trying to find a link to this but having no luck. Please help! I think he is just scared he won't be able to touch the money for his own wants. He wants to use all of her backpay to pay our car off instead of pay up her schooling at the speech school and I don't agree with that. He says if we didn't have the car note we could afford school and gas monthly off her SSI check and his extra money.

I'm not much help, but my friend's daughter is on SSI and she can only use it for home renovations and things like that, that benefit her daughter.
she has cerebal palsy, and she was having a hard time getting off the steps on the porch, so they got approved to use some of the money in the account to completely redo the porch/ramp for her

back pay can only be used for medical and the books and stuff and they ask for proof like recipets.

My son is on SSI and I was able to put my husband's name on the bank account. I am unsure about the difference between states however, I am able to use the money for any of my son's needs. (I do have to keep receipts)

Back pay can only be used for the child. We got $450 back pay, and my daughter got a new carseat and clothes. She was outgrowing 3t into 4t.

As far as her check you can use it for anything as it is to help you take care of the child. Car payment, insurance, medical copay exc. Also if she is eligable for ssi she should get Medicaid to cover all medical.

Your husband is a cheap a*****e.

The money is for YOUR DAUGHTER. It's supposed to go towards things relatd to her disability. Why does he care if he's not on the account. That's so stupid

Tell him the money is for your daughter, and to suck it up. It's not for him.

Call and ask the SSI people what you are approved to spend the money on.

I was told we could spend the money on anything dealing with my daughters care. Ex rent, electric, water, car payment, car insurance, babysitter(since I need one who specializes in asd).. andthing along that line. When I got my approvial letter (asd automatically is approved and I got her backpay check 9 days after applying) 2 months later it had everything in it that it could be used for

They told me I can only spend it on food, clothing, shelter, medication, and education.
