We can't tell you what to do as a career. What do you enjoy doing? Will you be able to put down an animal if you have to? Can you handle being around sick and lonely old people? Dying people? People with dementia?

If you only have 6 months to decide and have to turn to strangers on the internet, I would take more time to really think about what you want to do.

For Nursing... you can get an Associates (2 years) or a Bachelors (4 years). To be a veterinarian... you have to get a Bachelors and THEN go to medical school.. another 4 years.

Just depends on how long you want to be in school.

Like she asked, can you handle death, blood, guts? In either situation. Would you like to work with animals or people more.

I can handle the blood & guts and those type of situations.
I love animals and inlove helping people too. Those are the two careers that intrest me most. Im not concerned at all about how many years ill be in school for because i know it'll be worth it. I posted this to get an outsiders opinion.

If you aren't worried about time being in school... I'd go to be a vet. EVERYONE and their mother are in Nursing school. It's a demanding job right now, but the job opportunities for it will decline soon. A doctors job will always be in demand... not many people have the initiative, will power, or knowledge to go through with a doctorate.

True but you can be a vet tech which is essentially a nurse for animals. A veternarian would be equivelent to a doctor for people so to be a vet tech you could do the 2 year program just like for nursing. Totally depends on you OP, if you enjoy working with animals or people.

Is it affordable to you? You are pregnant now correct? I would probably wait until after you have your LO and then decide.

I am going through nursing courses now, but I would agree since there are so many going through it now jobs may have a decline. You could always go for a Vet Tech degree.

Pshh... if I'm gonna be a vet, I'm gonna be THE vet, not the vet's assistant

I guess I see your point but I wouldn't consider nurses to be doctors assistants. In most cases they do more work than the doctor as I'm sure the vet techs do.

I'm just speaking from experience... my ex's SIL was a vet tech and just got stuck doing all the dirty work.

I'm actually in a similar situation- I was in school to be a RVT but put it on hold till after I had my baby-now I'm reconsidering being a RVT ( registered vet tech) and going for nursing because it pays way better and has more opportunities with benefits- if you go to vet school ( assuming you have been accepted) know that it will be extremely challenging and will require a lot of dedication- just RVT school was extremely time consuming for me and I didn't have even have a child. If you go into Nursing you can take online courses and finish in a minimum of two years and get a job as an LVN. If you wanted you could continue school while having a nursing job to be an RN or even specialize like perhaps in Neonatal care if you looove babies :). Maybe start with some basic classes that could apply to both degrees and see where your heart is at after you have your baby?
