On Elecare formula...transition to milk Kenzye and Chris' Mommy : 2 kids; Lebanon, Missouri 14524 posts

If you had a child on Elecare for a severe milk protein allergy, how did you transition to a milk after they turned one? Or did you continue with Elecare and get the graduated form for toddlers? My son's protein allergy was severe but has gotten better. He can now eat foods that contain some milk...but he still can't handle things like ice cream or yogurt without having a reaction. So Im not sure what to do as a transition. Keep him on formula? Or try things like rice milk? He can't have soy because it still contains milk protein...not sure if almond or coconut do, but Im assuming...thanks for any advice or help!
BTW this is Elecare...I learned that not very many have heard of it

ETA: I have talked with my pedi and he recommends introducing milk mixed with formula for a while...but im hesitant since he still has a reaction to milk products that giving him actual milk will be worse
---he breaks out in acne like rashes that covered his whole body...gets severe diarrhea that causes bloody stools...and throws up----
This was him before we found out about the allergy

and just days after starting elecare (we went through a few others before determining this was the best choice for him)

And now he is doing amazing...we just don't want to mess him up ya know...

As you know, Gavin's been on soy formula because he's allergic to cows milk too. I don't think his allergy is as severe as Christopher's. I gave him some soy milk and it works just fine. I thought soy didn't have any milk in it, it was the soy bean in liquid form?

It still contains milk protein according to the ingredients...so I'm afraid to chance it..I'm not sure about the other forms...I haven't had a chance to look at them yet..my daughter was on soy formula and then soy milk...

oh it does? I didn't read the actual ingredients but a website said it doesn't have milk lol. But the next time I'm at the store I'll look. I've just been giving him formula more lately because I need to use it up! LOL. I bought Lactaid but Idk I think he cant' have that. He got a bit of diarrhea and I think that's why.

That's how my daughter was if she got into whole milk...she still can't have while, but she can tolerate 1% pretty good now so that's what she gets...

Caleb never had any problems with formula and milk lol so this is all new to me. Idk where Gavin got this from.

I would see if other "milks" like rice or almond would work. Otherwise just stick with the Elecare for the toddlers. That's what I would do lol

I would try alternative milks like Coconut Milk, Hemp milk, or Almond milk. Milk protien allergies I wouldn't even try to get them started on milk at all. Soy milk should never be given to boys all the time, as it contains estrogen and can cause them to grow boobs. As humans we don't need to drink milk at all actually.

I'm going to look into some of the other milks and see if they contain milk protein at all...like I said he can tolerate some food items now so that's a huge improvement
