keeping contractions going blehblehbleh 17 kids; Wisconsin 5728 posts

I'm 39wks and this morning at my weekly appt my dr swept my membranes. I was almost 3 cm dilated, 80% effaced, and baby's head was in zero station. Anyways I've been crampy all day and at about 6ish I started having pretty painful contractions. They started out 10 min apart but since around 9:30 they have been 5-6 min apart. They are still really painful but some more so then others. I'm wondering if I should do something to keep them going (walk, bounce on my yoga ball, etc) or try to sleep and see if they go away. I don't want to go in and get sent away. What did you do? How long did you labor at home?

I really really hope these are real.

ETA: I have lost some of my mucus plug but no bloody show and my water has not broke yet.

My advice is to take a little nap and rest up. :D. If you're really in labor, you won't be asleep for long and it will help give you energy for the rest of your labor. When you wake up, you can start walking and relaxing on the ball.

I labored at home until the contractions were 3-5 minutes apart and somehow I was only 3.5 cm when I went in. Since I had my bloody show (paired with fever and elevated bp), they admitted me. I took a nap a few hours before I went in and it was lifesaver! Birthing ball was also a huge help.

Good luck, Molly! I hope this is it! Easy labor dust!

Thanks Rach. I'm still not convinced these are the real deal. I'll go see if I can sleep some :D

Hahaha, it totally understandable. I think it is since the contractions are getting closer! Even if you can't sleep, definitely dose between contractions.

The time I really thought I was in labor, my contractions were 6-10 minutes apart, but went away after I went to sleep. When I was really in labor, nothing stopped em. Once they went from 15 min apart to 4-6 min apart, I knew it was the real deal.

Keep us posted!!,
